We were there in November 2023 for the day. We were one of the first people to get off the ship as I wanted get the most out of our time at the resort. Booking was simple and the staff replies quickly to inquiries and messages. We booked the Beach & Jungle plan and I’m glad we did because it afforded us our own private area to relax in. You are encouraged to communicate via WhatsApp which is a quick download on your cellphone and easy to use. A week before arriving we received an email with instructions on how to get to the pickup area and find our driver. A few days before arrival we received a message from the driver with his picture and more instructions. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get from your ship to the pickup spot because it takes a good 15-20 minutes. Also, make sure you communicate the time correctly you want to be picked up to go to the resort and head back to the ship by clarifying your pickup time in their time zone rather than ship time if you are there on a port day.
The ride to the property takes about 25-30 minutes from the port and you will lose cell service, but the resort offers free WiFi that works well. But if ever there is a day to unplug, this is it! We arrived and hopped out and Carlos was waiting at the entrance with a smile. He gave us a tour, introduced us to the team, and guided us to our reserved spot. We enjoyed a cute covered area with 2 sun loungers, 2 bean bags, and 2 tables for food and beverages. The beach was clean and the resort was charming and comfortable. We were soon settled in and we placed an order for 2 mango smoothies, which turned out to be fresh and not overly sweet; perfect! We quickly received our shrimp tostadas which were so amazing! We also thoroughly enjoyed the guacamole and sashimi. The menu prices were very reasonable and the portions were nice. Everyone was very kind, smiled and the staff checked on us enough that we felt taken care of but were not overly bothered as we relaxed and enjoyed the beach and the peaceful surroundings. If you are looking for a quiet getaway with excellent food, beverages, and service choose this place. It is not a party atmosphere, which is great if you are looking to completely disconnect in a quiet place. There is an outdoor shower area to wash off the sand, a massage area on the beach where a nice young lady will work the tension out of your body, clean facilities, a bar area, and plenty of seating areas if you want to get out of the sun or socialize with others. The resort offers kayaks and during our stay there was no sargassum on the beach. There was a very small clump in the water farther out in the ocean, which was not a bother at all. I highly recommend this place as there isn’t much to do in the Costa Maya area aside from some Mayan ruins and the beach and I would definitely venture here for an extended off the grid stay. We paid cash and tipped the staff and were picked up on time. You are asked what time you want to leave and they arrange a driver to pick you up at that time. We were back on the ship 1 hour before final boarding. Overall I can’t say enough...
Read moreSuch an awesome experience for my family!! I booked a 1 day VIP pass in April with my wife and 2 young daughters while our cruise docked at Puerto Costa Maya for the day.
I was a little hesitant because of the cost and not knowing much besides what I read online, but it was worth EVERY dollar!!
To start, I literally booked this last minute (night before our cruise arrived), so I was very concerned about the logistics with transportation. However, after I emailed them to ask about availability, I received an email back from their management within 15 mins or so and it was incredibly detailed with information. I went ahead and paid the reservation down payment.
The transportation company contacted me exactly when Hayhu management said they would via WhatsApp. They sent very detailed info and pictures so we can get around the craziness at the port. Gabriel picked us up and was AMAZING! He has such a great personality and was even teaching my 5 & 7 yr old daughter some Spanish along the ride. He was incredibly kind and shared a lot about the history of Mahahual.
Once we arrived, we were greeted by the general manager and then our server immediately. They were incredibly pleasant and excited to host us. The grounds of the entire beach club looked immaculate! The beautiful pictures I saw online were exactly what it looked like in person! We were very impressed!
The food was PHENOMENAL! Literally, some of the best food we’ve ever had on vacation! All of it made with fresh ingredients and fantastic flavors throughout every item we ordered!
The drinks were also fantastic! You can tell they are made with the best ingredients. Truly refreshing and we enjoyed a few different types from blended to on the rocks etc.
The only part I would recommend that you do different from me, is bring cash instead of credit card. I should have pulled the money out of the ATM on the ship but forgot. I had a small challenge with getting overcharged a little on my credit card, but the owners were SO great to speak with and we got it all corrected after I left. Another reason to use cash, They offer a discount on your total bill when you pay in cash, so it’s worth it to pull it out of the ATM.
In closing, this is by far the longest review I have ever left, but it’s because this is by far one of the greatest experiences I had for a 1 day beach club, and we’ve been to a lot.
Thank you to the staff and Natasha for helping me after we left as well! We will be...

Getting to the taxi, you must walk through the whole port, exit the port, and continue to walk down the middle of road till you get to the intersection. There you will be met by someone who will check your name and get a taxi for you. As stated, there is no charge for the taxi, but know that they will politely ask for a tip.
After about a 20 min taxi ride you will be dropped off at Hayhu. I was met by one of the employees and was promptly shown to my area in front of the beach. The water was beautiful, and the sand was nice. They have a shower to wash off the sand, bathrooms and changing rooms.
For lunch, there was no knowledge of my fully paid reservation and/or how much credit I was to receive. I had to pull up the email and they had to contact the owner to verify everything. This was a little inconvenient, but it worked out and my credit was determined as 150 dollars. The food and drinks were wonderfully and beautifully prepared, but it was pricey. For 1 lobster tail, 1 fish fillet, 1 steak, 4 empanadas, 1 bone marrow, 1 alcoholic drink, 4 smoothies and 2 waters came out to 225 dollars, not including tip. Thus, my balance was 75 dollars after the 150 dollars in credit. On the other hand, one thing that is awesome is that they use wood, not coal, to grill the meats which makes the food taste fantastic. The wonderful sauces are an exceptional complement to the dishes, giving everything full flavor. This was easily one of my top 3 best meals on my 7-night cruise and I ate all the specialty restaurants on RCCL.
Suggestion: It would be nice to have someone explain all the amenities and to be asked if we would like any of them. For example, in the description on the website it states that towels are included. But I was not asked if I needed any or where they might be located. If the amenities were shared in the beginning, it would be easier to ask, locate and use, thus creating added value to my experience.
Bottom line, my 3 children and I loved our time there and would likely go back again. If you want a more secluded beach experience with wonderful food and service and are willing to pay a bit more for it, I recommend this...
