Our trip to Cancun included an anticipated reservation to the Hello Kitty Cafe Cancun. We were very excited; however, that faded away with the lack of engagement by staff, poor service, and the food took forever to come out. I don’t normally take the time to write such detailed reviews but here we are: SERVICE: We arrived at 2:52 pm and I apologized because our reservation was at 2:45. We got seated by the hostess; however no server came to the table and I had to grab another employee to request a menu (our party of 4 was only given 1 menu). Then, I politely told one of the servers named Amairan that we were ready to order- she didn’t look at me and walked away. Not even a response of “someone will be right with you” just a blank stare and completely ignored me. Finally AFTER 29 minutes, our server arrived and took our order at 3:21.
FOOD: our order: tuna sashimi-7/10, avocado 7/10, risotto steak 6/10, 2 Mac and cheese :3/10, carrot cake 7/10, shake 8/10, mini sliders 7/10, tea party 7/10, among drinks, coffee. Total: 230 dollars. The food was descent but not for the price… but again we had the expectation that the food was not going to be the greatest bc we were there for the experience; which turned out to be terrible. ATMOSPHERE : cute hello kitty props, cute pink restaurant, trendy, instagramable 8/10. But 2/10 for the bathroom. It was dirty and not kept, you would expect the bathrooms would be cleaner considering the amount $$$ of the food.
If it wasn’t for my daughter being so obsessed with HK I would have walked out. I figured this type of restaurant would accommodate families, yet the lack of friendliness with serious faces says otherwise. Photo ops: were there, but honestly the interactive part of it was the size of a closet.
Overall 3/10, would not recommend and if you still want to go for the cuteness and likeness of Hello Kitty, buy a coffee and maybe a sweet treat, take your picture and leave.
PS: I’m Mexican and I do speak Spanish fluently so language was not a barrier for me...
Read moreI’m a huge hello kitty fan and truly went out of my way for this restaurant. I ignored the bad reviews, and that led me to wasting my time and leaving with a horrible mood. Please do not go here. The service is absolutely terrible. They do not care about you.
I walked in, I wasn’t greeted with a single smile. The server made eye contact with me and proceeded to walk away. We were left confused and just sat down. After 5 minutes of sitting, we asked the server if it was okay we sat here. She then proceeded to tell us the cafe is take- out only. I was so surprised as it was 7:00pm and the restaurant closed at 8pm. She then turned around and asked the kitchen staff if we can dine in or take out, and the kitchen staff gave a nasty look, and told her to tell us take out only. The server had no apologetic tone either. We then asked the manager if we can dine in as the restaurant closes in one hour, he told us we can but had a bad attitude as well. he made us order the food right then and there though, as we were still standing. He also made us pay right away. We then waited for our food about 15-20 minutes. The manager himself brought out the food all in take out boxes. This is when the huge disappointment hit us. They tried to fit the pancakes I ordered in a really small to go box. It didn’t look appealing at all, which is the whole point of the restaurant. I asked if I can get a plate, he provided a plate. Meaning he could’ve done that from the start.
I am so disappointed and disgusted with this experience. Not a single staff welcomed us. No one had a smile on their face. They looked miserable. The pancakes also tasted horrible. Please do not waste your time to go here. If you’re nearby, sure, give it a try if you wish. But please listen and don’t plan a day for this...

Lets get the good stuff out of the way... now that that's out of the way, let's move onto why this experience was do deeply disappointing.
Drinks: We ordered tea, Italian Soda and 2 different mocktails. The tea was bland and boring, irredeemably bad, the Italian soda and insult, flavourless and foul, but the main offenders were the mocktails, who's ingredients probably consist of, sweetener, water, and colouring. Honestly you'll probably find a better drink made from a 9 peso satchet, and at a higher quality too.
Lets move onto the food, the Mousse, was anything but that. Mousse is supposed to have an airy bubbly texture. This abomination is more like a chocolate jelly (Jello) with an identity crisis, and it can't quite decide whether to be soft or wobbly. That could all probably be forgiven if the taste were up to scratch, but of course, it isn't. It's bland and mostly tastes like chocolate power with no redeeming sweet elements, please, never order this. The doughnut is another offence to all things food. If you've ever eaten a doughnut, you should know it's soft and sweet, but this foul copy is nothing in comparison, a lump of dough with the most insipid icing that tastes of old store room and crushed dreams. The orange juice is from a Jumex carton, nothing special, pretty disappointing too. Nothing here tastes nice, the presentation is all, but if you actually enjoy eating your food, then go elsewhere. Not to mention it was Expensive!
I've read through some of these reviews, and some people allude to the the food being substandard in quality, they are being overly kind to what they serve here.
