We loved our visit to La Catrina. Both the garlic shrimp and the coconut shrimp dinners were delicious, ample and very reasonably priced. The restaurant has lots of seating, both indoors and outdoors. All are nicely decorated with art that is available for purchase. We enjoyed this place very much and definitely will return.
Their Saturday and Sunday breakfast buffets are delicious and an amazing value at just MX$250 pesos (about $12.50 all inclusive). The number and quality of the hot dishes is stunning. These are some of the options that were available today: omelets cooked to order, chicken tacos, quesadillas, nopalitos, home fries, sauteed potatoes with chiles, green and red chilaquiles, chicken in creamy poblano sauce, chorizo, mini corn dogs, sauteed sausages, chile rellenos, scrambled eggs, chicharrones en salsa verde, refried beans with bacon (yum!), pancakes, oatmeal, mini coyotas, chocoflan, spice cake, mini donuts, fresh fruit, yogurt, and more. The price also includes delicious coffee and tamarindo water. It's hard to imagine a more satisfying breakfast experience anywhere else in San Carlos! The restaurant was full of local families and gatherings of friends celebrating special occasions. That's a real testament to any restaurant's excellent quality.
Please note that the restaurant is very easy to drive past because there is no large roadside sign with the restaurant name. Either use google maps to find it or look for the large tarps shown in the attached photos that simply say "COMIDA MEXICANA" and...
Read moreThe restaurant is lovely and we had great service, except that the kitchen was very slow. Adjoining table had to wait for their food until someone brought in eggs to cook with and warned us that they had been waiting a long time. I had the strangest fish & chips of my life! I think that the fish was fried ( yesterday?) and then baked in an oven today. There was not a hint of oil on it anywhere. The pieces were soft and limp. The tarter sauce, (or was that supposed to be coleslaw?) was weird; tasted of strong dill pickle mixed in mayonnaise. My husband's hamburger looked good and he said it tasted good. Sodas are 35 pesos a can and are a bit pricey. We didn't try any dessert. Waiter told us we could use our card, but then changed his mind. Not sure if we will ever give it...
Read moreLa Catrina was conveniently at the entrance of San Carlos ! Super glad we stopped here then try to keep driving and look for another restaurant. Everything was fresh and delicious! The art work was really nice to look at . We ate outside which had a very chill vibe. Only thing I didn’t like is that there was only 1 restroom, and I had to wait in line to use the restroom when I really had to go!( I did mention this to Jorge but he informing me they’re building 2 more restrooms !, so next time we come back they will be available) Other than that I highly recommend the food and environment. Jorge the owner was really nice and made sure we were...
