Sol Restaurant at Achakar beach, several miles outside Tangier, Morocco, has been in this location for over 40 years. It has been expanded greatly over the years, so now there is a very long lower outdoor dining terrace which has several dozen tables, all with umbrellas.

While not exactly upscale, this restaurant serves delicious fish dishes at moderate prices. Be sure and have the waiter clarify the price of your meal as when I was there with two friends in mid-May 2021, they tried to charge 50 DH more.

The beach and ocean views are wonderful, and the food was served promptly. Even the bottled water was cold...welcome on a warm and sunny day. While some people sit inside, most prefer to dine outside.

I was delighted that two employees remembered me from 25 years ago. They were friendly and happy to see me again.

While Le Mirage and l'Ocean restaurants are upscale and much more expensive, if you don't mind mingling with the locals and some tourists, Sol Restaurant at Bakassem beach is perfectly fine. No credit cards are accepted, only cash. There are no wines, cocktails or beers, just sodas, tea or coffee and waters.

The toilets around the corner outside have squat toilets. There is plenty of parking for your car off to the side as you pull in, but expect to pay the attendant a few dirhams when you leave.

Plan to spend up to 100 Dirhams per person, possibly more, but usually less. Prices are listed...

It’s a very good place to eat fish and sea food in general. The plates are copious and very generous. The atmosphere is lovely especially at dawn. You can watch the sunset whilst eating. Lots of families, a mixture of tourists and locals. The service is not terrible. If you are a usual client, you get to be served first. If you’re new, you gonna have to wait…if you go by taxi, don’t leave too late as there is none staying there in the evening (quite a few during daytime) and you gonna have to fetch one on the side of the road which is a...

Very bad service. Serve Sepia and tell you it’s calamari, my wife got food poisoning she was so sick for 3 days. This is not the first time we have a bad experience. Last time they changed us way too much because we ordered something not on the menu. I am never eating here again. Bunch of liars and thieves with no regard to human safety by serving old seafood, but also no accountability because the government doesn’t check anything. This restaurant should not be allowed...
