Definitely a spectacle worth a walk through! You can purchase local catches fresh off the boats including many different fish to all kinds of seafood on the spot and bring it to the restaurant area next door where they will prepare it for you right there! Of course you can also just take it home. Some excellent photo ops in the market! Prepare to be followed by the restaurant people when you enter the market area and pressured and "guided" basically non stop. If you buy anything you are swarmed to go to their stall to have it prepared. There will be some arguing and you just have to pick someone and go with them if you plan to eat there. As soon as that happens everyone dissipates and lets you go on your way no problem! If you go to just eat in the restaurant area it is very expensive. Significantly cheaper if you do the market thing first and bring it to be prepared. While eating you will have a barrage of people peddling their wares come to your table. Fairly easy to dismiss/ignore if you don't want to actually do this during your meal....but their prices are quite fair if you are in the market for small local crafty things! Everyone is reasonable and polite as long as you are, despite the unfamiliarity of the situation (assuming you aren't accustomed to it!)

Amazing food , BUT you have to know how to do things and don’t just let them hound you and bully you into getting things … here is how you do it , go past all the people trying to usher you into a restaurant and walk into the market proceeds to look at all the different choices and ask for prices and only after looking at all the stalls decide on what you want to eat ..: Pick some shrimp , calamari , clams and or fish , however make sure to check for freshness and when you pick what you want ask to get the exact one you want. When you pick shrimp don’t let them Grab a huge hand full , instead pick them one by one as usually the ones on the top are freshest and they will grab a few from the bottom you can’t see that are not so fresh … Once you get whatever seafood you want you can have one of the guys there in the market clean it it’ll be a few extra bucks and then bring it outside to the restaurant and have them cook it for you my favorite style is number two

Really nice place and great idea to have the restaurants combined with the fish market. It is on a nice stretch of beach with lots of tiny crabs. If you like seafood I think that this is a must visit. I don't like to haggle so I asked Rocky at restaurant no. 16 to come with me to the market and help me to buy without getting ripped off (and also because I don't speak Portuguese). I already had a price guide from my Mozambican friend of how much I should expect to pay per kilo for buying and also for cooking. Rocky helped me to negotiate the right price and then cooked the food for me charging me the correct amount my friend had suggested (actually it came in slightly cheaper). It was honestly some of the best seafood I have ever tasted and completely stress free. I would recommend anyone who is unsure about their negotiation skills or Portuguese to just ask for Rocky when you arrive and the others will bring you too him.
