Took a trip from Cape Town through Namibia, was a wonderful experience, but this restaurant is by the worse I have come across in a very very long time. We arrived at 18h00 to have dinner, was told that they are expecting 2 big groups for dinner at 19h00, told them we only want to eat as we drove 6 hours to get here, and will be in and out before 7. We ordered the basics, yet the food took a hour to arrive. Plates arrived 5 min apart from each other,(food cold) mushroom soup was from a can, I ordered the chic strips and salad, chicken was very soft and salad fresh. Most disappointing and disgusting was the manager Anna's attitude when we wanted to discuss the poor quality of the food and service from the kitchen. She came out of the kitchen with a very unfriendly, never minded attitude, as if we were wasting her time, when asked if the soup came from a can, she confirmed yes and that it is stated on the menu.... obviously a lie as nowhere on the menu it stated canned soup, R95 for a bowl of canned soup, 1 slice of bread, stale and not even toasted. The poor waitress Caitlin tried her very best to apologise, and had to take the heat until the manager eventully showed her face, as we insisted to see her. Its revolting that a manager of a restaurant would use their team to apologise for a situation out of her control and the manager either did not had the guts to come out, could not be bothered, or she is just not capable to give basic, proper service. Caitlin was great under the circumstances, but Anna should really be ashamed and possibly rethink her...
Read moreThe location is perfect, perhaps one of the more safer options in Keetmanshoop and it's easily accessible. The staff were great, very friendly and helpful. The rooms were also very good value for money, which was appreciated.
However, when I was there, this accommodation was also hosting a very loud and obnoxious party with anywhere between 50 and 100 people. This meant that for all those guests who were hoping to get good sleep that night, they may have had trouble with the noise. I was quite shocked that the same establishment could host both tired guests who are making a stop after long day rime driving journeys who really need their sleep, while also hosting a major party/celebration/event that was loud and continued way past midnight.
Overall this is a very decent place to stay, but I would recommend that when booking in advance, be sure that they do not plan on hosting any events that same evening or else you may find yourself...
Read moreHaving stayed here before, my husband booked us in again for one night, when driving from Aus to Upington. I was abit concerned because Schutzenhaus was an old Guesthouse. Then, when we arrived, I was so happily surprised with the recently built accommodation that we were shown. A large, clean room with a big bathroom and safe parking just outside. All one needs for a stop over! That, friendly people and some food1||So, it was also a big relief to find a restaurant in the hotel, serving a wide variety of dishes. When one has been driving for miles, that extra drive, looking for a restaurant, can be deadly!!||As for friendly people, both staff and owner were just that.||Schutzenhaus has a long history which can be seen in all the photos and memorabilia hanging on the walls. We always appreciate places with history and value that ambience of...
