Bistro Tante Pietje — Restaurant in 's-Hertogenbosch

After a long day of travel, we arrived here for dinner. Initially we were told the kitchen was closed, but then they backtracked and let us sit. We thought it was nice of them. We wish they hadn’t. Better to have turned us away then serve us terrible food. My husband ordered the dry-aged steak and asked for medium rare. It arrived precut and very rare it was pretty much uncooked. I ordered a poke bowl as I wanted something on the lighter side. The fish was not fresh, the rice was soggy. It was tiny. It was just the saddest poke bowl I’ve ever seen. The taste of the fish was so bad I was afraid I would get food poising, so I ate the salad that came with my husband’s steak. The pine nuts in that salad were bitter as they were stale. Nice and warm atmosphere, friendly staff. Menu however is not surprising and quite ordinary executed. Lots and lots of (greasy and salty) sauces. It’s special ‘Chateau Briand’ at €41,- ! per person! is already sliced and poorly presented in a pan. Had to look twice to see and realize that my imagination of a Chateau Briand was totally different than this very small portion. Side dishes like (only a few) fries to be ordered separately! Tried contacting them directly via email with a simple, polite enquiry — not a single line in response. Silence instead of a reply suggests a disappointing lack of professionalism and basic courtesy. For a French bistro, one might expect at least minimal engagement with potential guests, yet here there was none.
