At Pollevie we had our worst experience in a Dutch restaurant. We went there for our wedding anniversary and ordered a 4 course dinner. We knew the restaurant from before so we knew that we would have to wait between each course. However, 40 minutes after we were done with the first one, we were still waiting for the second. We brought this to the waitress attention that went to the kitchen to ask. We had to wait 10 more minutes until she came back and told us that there had been a mistake in the kitchen and from that moment our dishes would take priority. 20 minutes later we were still waiting and seeing how other tables were being served exactly the same things we had ordered. I had to go to look for the waitress, that seemingly was avoiding us, to tell her that we did not want the rest of the food anymore. One goes to these places to enjoy the food and the experience, but waiting more than an hour between dishes and being avoided by the waitress, angry and hungry, we would not enjoy the dinner anymore. So we told her to bring the bill. Amazingly, she brought it with the 4 course menu price (from which we had had just 1). We told her that that was not fair, that we were not served the rest of the food. She offered to remove the drinks from the bill (we had just water, since I was driving and my wife could not drink). At the end we payed for a lower tier menu (3 courses from which we had had just one).

Since I don't eat raw/cold fish, I indicated during the reservation that I would like to have the menu but without fish, and they offered me an alternative without any fuss. The food was amazing: from the Amuse Bouche, to the edible table decoration made of rice paper infused with herbs, garlic cress, leek oil, sunflower pesto, a vegan cream made from dried tomatoes and salt, right through to the dessert - everything was simply excellent. The corresponding wine pairing was also spot on. I particularly enjoyed the intermediate course with scallops, parsnip puree, hazelnuts, and grapefruit foam. But the walnut puree from the main course was also very good. The appetizer made from fermented beetroot, pickled beetroot, and a super tasty sauce with a white cream was surprisingly delicious. The service was outstanding: courteous, friendly, always ensuring that we lacked nothing, super on time with refilling the wines and water. Incredibly knowledgeable and skilled in dealing with guests, yet not intrusive at all. The atmosphere was inviting and cozy. The table decoration was not intrusive or overwhelming. We would go back anytime and loved everything about the evening.

summarizing a rather poor experience. The excellent work of the kitchen team is ruined by the modest service mentality of the restaurant. A mistake with the reservation is ok. and can always happen. Actually the ability to settle such issues in style and with a certain generosity is an opportunity to show the premium class of your restaurant and bind a customer. Unfortunately in this point Pollevie failed completely. Providing a too small table and arguing with the customers is fine at ‚Kees Kroket‘ but certainly not suitable for a restaurant at this level. Disappointing, probably...
