A true hidden gem! We enjoyed an incredible Surinamese meal in an elegant, welcoming setting. My cousin recommended Petjes after hearing we were craving Surinamese cuisine before heading home and it didn’t disappoint.
While the restaurant is a bit off the main tourist areas and parking was a little quirky, we managed to find a good spot. It was later on a Wednesday night, so the place was fairly empty. The interior is spotless and well decorated with Surinamese decor. It felt more refined than most other Surinamese spots I’ve visited.
For our entrees, we had bami with stewed chicken, roti with curry chicken, gado gado, and an order of sate with fries. Everything was delicious! My friends, who had only tried Surinamese food once before, were blown away and couldn’t stop talking about the stewed chicken. The roti was exactly what I’d been craving all week, the sate was well seasoned and fries that were hot and crispy.
The staff was also incredibly friendly and accommodating. They went out of their way to confirm that none of the dishes contained tree nuts, ensuring my friend with a nut allergy could eat worry-free.
All in all, Petjes Aruba is absolutely worth the cab ride from the main strip. The portions were generous, the prices good, and the food outstanding. It’s a great option for anyone looking to experience authentic Surinamese...
Read moreFirst let me say, I didn't know what to expect when coming here. I was born and raised in Suriname, I live in NY now. I was craving this type of Suriname's indo soul food. They were busy on a Sunday around 3pm, we were seated right away but people were coming and going. Prices all in florin. Very attentive staff.
Was the food authentic Surinamese Indo food? Maybe not 100%, but maybe 97%. If you don't have the exact ingredient some items may have a bit of different texture or taste, but still very tasty! My fiance had the teloh with trie, the trie was really good, I liked their take on trie! I had the Nasi Rames - I don't eat beef so I asked to remove the beef items from it, initially I didn't ask for them to substitute it with another meat but my server did come back to the table to ask. The Nasi was the same taste like that no frils nasi from Suriname, no frils is good thing here! :) Ice cold Parbo in can!
I really wanted to visit Petje's before we left. We will be back during our next trip! If there's one place to tip big in Aruba, it's this place!!!!

Read morePleasantly surprised! We ordered the roti and the Nami combo, gonna have to say wow, had planned on coming back to aruba to visit another restaurant…. But they happen to be closed heard this name couple time had taxi drop me to check it out and I would have to say atmosphere was quiet and calm the waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable, we were both extremely impressed with the food and presentation fall off the bone chicken wonderfully seasoned rice noodles loss for words food smelled so good I had to try before I took a pic(sorry) but the flavor of the food left a lasting mark, the liver sammel was sweet and went good with the rice it all meshed together pleasantly and compliment to my palette. Next vacation this is a must stop place for me, we came in a cruise limited time not able to get Surinamese/Indonesian food, this place was refreshing and some best we had on this brief trip highly highly recommend it food quiet atmosphere, see lot...
