Trattoria Da Giorgio 🇮🇹 — Restaurant in Gennep

A single tear falls down the Pope's cheek each time an Italian restauranteur decides that risotto can be replaced by Asian rice and pasta can be replaced by pre-fried Asian micro noodles. Let's hope the Pope's tears at the very least put out some of the hot summer fires in the South of Europe while this unfortunate disaster in Gennep lasts.

Let's be honest we were late. We arrived at 21:45, 15 minutes before closing the kitchen. Decide on no starter so we wouldn't hold up the staff too long and stake out here all night. We ordered two mains. A vegetarian pasta, spaghetti, and a mushroom/beef risotto. The services was fast. So fast even, it triggered me. We were served within 10 min.

Any person with a tiny bit of experience with cooking risotto knows that it's pretty much impossible to make it that quickly. So I started inspecting the risotto. And it didn't look like risotto at all. No symmetric, small, wide, grains. More like mini banana shaped rice. No bite. Soft, mushy.

The pasta, was not pasta. It was ultra thin noodles.

The vegetables, meat, mushrooms seemed ok. The broccoli was at least fresh. The sauce, if any, lousy. Parmezaan sparse. The truffle oil was terrible, added to BOTH dishes.

Truffle oil is a complete and utter distraction, and waste. Truffle oil is not for on mushrooms. It destroys any remanence of the taste of the mushrooms. The chef should know this is a cop out and cheat.

Dessert was ok, but overpriced.

The service was solid, the kind Italian(?) guy seemed helpful and positive. The chef rounds in the restaurant, too boastful and ignorant. Nice stories of Turkey while he should stay in the kitchen and focus on making a good product. And only come out if the customers asks. Rest of the staff seemed nice, and kind...

All in all overpriced. While waste 30€ pp here when you can get better food via the supermarkt. What is the real differentiation here? What is the real Italian cooking.”?

Back to basics people.

Will think about this disaster for a while as it echo’s around my friends, Italian friends. Hope the restaurant improves. Will visit in a year again to see...

Okay food but horrible service. Only one of the three waitresses was semi-enthusiastic, others looked like they were not enjoying themselves at all and the services worsened because of it. We had been sitting with empty glasses for about half an hour before anyone noticed and asked if we wanted anything else. Order taking for the food was quick, but then it took at least 45 minutes, if not an hour, before we got our food! Normally I would say that this is an okay time when the entire restaurant is full but here, there were probably about 8 tables filled of which 2 had already finished eating.

We really don't mind waiting a little longer, but either say that it will take a long time to serve the food or have excellent quality food. Unfortunately when we visited, neither of those things were the case so I'm sad to say that we will not be...

Tasty food of good quality ingredients and a great cappuccino!

We were a family with 2 young children. Even our children enjoyed the food very much. Especially, since we came here after spending a good whole day in centerparcs nearby, the food helped us all to get a great finish of the day that was well spent. I will happily return if I could.
