Tante Stoof — Restaurant in Hellendoorn

Tante Stoof is a local celebrity, its outdoor restaurant is lovely and set up for parents with kids. It has a huge playground that is fenced off, so kids can play while parents have an actually uninterrupted conversation over what is surprisingly good food.

The flammenkuchen are baked in a proper pizza oven and the steak is painstakingly grilled to perfection on a wood grill. This also mention that you should expect an hour wait for your food when it’s busy.

The atmosphere inside is less great than outside but it’s cool to see the chef grill your meat or bake your kuchen.

The playground has lots of different options for different ages and a big area to play with water and sand so bring an extra set of clothes. It’s so big that there is plenty of space for many kids however as is the Dutch approach to rearing there will be some little bullies that are not sufficiently supervised, so be prepared to parent other peoples kids and perhaps also their parents :p

Surprisingly their kids menu was not great, all the options were deep fried and they did not have any simple or healthy options, like a simple pasta of some sort. Which meant we ended up ordering the flammenkunchen for our kids, which was okay but a bit too salty to be honest

The lack of healthy options is a dealbreaker for us, no matter how nice the playground I just would not become a regular at a place where I know my kid only has very unhealthy or salty options for dinner — not even when they get the...

The starters are the dishes you need to order here! They looked good and tasted very nice! The main courses looked a bit rushed and were fairly dry. In their (read Tante Stoof) defence, it was 36° C outside so maintaining a good ambience and climate in the kitchen was pretty hard so that might affect the dishes. Service was good and all but one were friendly. Note: the restaurant is located on holiday resort grounds so you will have children running around, hence the playground allocated to the restaurant. Vanavond hebben we spontaan besloten een hapje te eten bij Tante Stoof. We lazen alleen maar positieve recenties dus wij hadden goede hoop. Ondanks dat het eten inderdaad zo goed is als beloofd, zijn we erg geschrokken door de corona maatregelen die NIET gehanteerd worden in dit restaurant. Tafels waar meer dan 10 personen aan zitten, met soms zichtbaar wel 4 huishoudens. Er wordt geen afstand gehouden, zowel het personeel onderling als door de bediening aan tafel. Wij hadden de pech om ook direct naast een gangpad te zitten, waardoor het personeel echt vlak langs kwam, en dan niet 1 keer, maar de hele tijd! Zo zijn ons nog veel meer dingen opgevallen, maar laten we daar maar over zwijgen. Het concept van dit restaurant is goed, origineel eten en nogmaals, ontzettend lekker! Maar in deze onzekere tijden was dit voor ons echt een slechte ervaring, en hou ik mijn hart vast voor ieders gezondheid. En helaas wordt er ook geen gezondheidscheck gedaan of überhaupt gegevens genoteerd van de aanwezigen, dus het is maar afwachten of wij klachten gaan krijgen. Tijdens het afrekenen hebben wij toch onze zorgen uitgesproken naar het personeel, maar dat werd weggewuifd door een meisje dat ook alleen maar haar werk doet.. voor mij een extra reden om alsnog deze recensie...
