Restaurant BAL, Echteld — Restaurant in Neder-Betuwe

Mixed feelings about this place. While the rooms are recently renovated and are quite beautiful with comfortable beds and pleasant bedding, plus new bathrooms, lots of fundamentals are seriously wrong. The room doors and walls are very thin, so you will hear absolutely everything through the night, including a mobile phone vibration alarm in some other room (that's how thin the walls are!). The hotel is built partially underground and lots of rooms are in the basement which is quite unpleasant, when you are a guest. The windows are small and they are up in the ceiling, so you can see the feet of people passing by and car tyres from your window (most basement rooms have a spectacular view of the parking lot car tyres at 160 EURO/night). The stairs leading to the basement rooms are very steep, very uncomfortable to navigate, if you have suitcases. Late night returning guests stumble down the stairs very loudly, so you definitely will be woken up. Restaurant is closed on Sundays, so we did get to experience dining...

Booked at this hotel & restaurant in Echteld on the morning of arrival, check-in slightly earlier than the norm was also possible. The welcome at reception was super nice, customer-friendly and helpful, no question is too much here! There was even guidance to the room, access to the room was via a staircase, only 2 windows are above ground level. There are plenty of free parking spaces outside at the rear of the hotel/restaurant. The hotel is located in a quiet area. The room was equipped with everything I needed for my stay, not very spacious, but effective. After the first exploration, go to the restaurant for a lunch menu. Visited the bar in the evening for a beer. The overnight stay in a great bed, followed by a well-organized breakfast, after which I took a shower, checked out and went home again. Happily surprised with the airconditioning in the room and the quality of the breakfast buffet.

I talked to two different receptionists. The male receptionist I talked to really understands the business. He is friendly, efficient and keeps his promises and makes sure the rooms will be paid for. The female receptionist seemed to be a bit lost. Didn't work efficiently at all, forgot to put the room keys to the guests names before laying all the keys on the counter . Then she left to go do something at the bar while leaving all room keys on the counter, unsupervised. It was a bit chaotic and she didn't seem to have the situation under control.
