Restaurant Fat Alice — Restaurant in Putten

My wife and I were running errands in the area, buying necessities for the upcoming weekend and decided to grab a light dinner before heading back to our hotel.

Since this was such a small town, we had zero idea of what was in the area, so we settled for Fat Alice since everything else was closed or open, but dead. Since we saw people dining here, we took it as a good sign and settled for Fat Alice.

I am not a gambling type of person and this was quite possibly the worst gamble I have ever taken when choosing a restaurant to dine at blindly.

As I mentioned previously, my wife and I wanted a light dinner, so we planned to share their seafood boil. When we informed our server about this, he said they would charge us an additional €10 just for sharing. We were confused, so we asked the question a second time but with a different item and he said the same thing.

This was so ridiculous it was laughable. The server said if we shared appetizers that we wouldn't be charged the €10. Whatever. We ordered the ribs & shrimp and gumbo instead.

Has anyone at this restaurant ever had authentic or at least semi-authentic cajun/creole cuisine?

The "gumbo" was essentially tomato and vegetable soup with zero flavor/seasoning and the rib barely had any meat on it. The shrimp was slightly overcooked as well. Everything was awful.

I don't mind when other cultures have their own interpretation of what a dish should be. For example, Hong Kong Borscht and Borscht virtually share the same name, but are two VERY VERY different soups. Maybe if the menu had said, "__ Style Gumbo" then I'd give them the pass, but this was quite possibly the furthest thing from gumbo ever.

The server also gave us 2 bottles of still water for €5 when tap would've sufficed. I'm not sure what their problem was, but I got the feeling that they could hustle a couple of tourists way out in Putten with their bogus €10 sharing "fee" and bottled water. Was it because we were tourists? Asian? The other large party was getting much better service as well.

Na eerdere redelijke ervaringen bij Fat Alice afgelopen donderdag daar gegeten ter afsluiting van de vakantie. Wat een afgang !!! We konden pas om 1930 terecht vanwege de drukte . Er was zo,n all you can eet avond Geen probleem De ontvangst was goed en we konden zelfs uit een paar tafeltjes kiezen . Daarna het lange wachten op de door ons bestelde spareribs. Raar .. mensen die na ons een extra stukje spareribs bestelden kregen eerder dan dat onze bestelling door kwam . Maar toen ... de spareribs waren hier en daar verbrand en vreselijk droog.en smakeloos Vermoedelijk veel te lang in de oven gelegen vanwege het all you can eat vel Ook vreemd .. normaal krijg je een streng spareribs .. nu allemaal kleine stukjes .. wij denken dat dat wat overgebleven stukken waren. Er zit nou eenmaal bij spareribs een taai vlies aan de binnenkant .. thuis haal je dat er natuurlijk af voordat je het product in je bbq legt .. ik snap dat dat voor een restaurat niet te doen is .. zeker niet op zo,n all you can eat avond ..maar door het veel te lang te laten doorgaren ..wordt het wel een heel stug en taai en droog geheel

Zelfs een stuk spareribs terug mee laten nemen .. Als antwoord .. ik zal het doorgeven .. Het standaard verhaal. Het nieuwe stukje spareribs was niet veel beter .. eigenlijk even slecht. Bij het wisselen van de verbrande spareribs nam de ober gelijk ook maar de salade mee .. deze niet meer terug gezien .l Bij het afrekenen nogmaals aangegeven dat het eten niet goed was .. weer hetzelfde standaart antwoord. De dame die het restaurant runt hoorde ons wel .. maar gaf geen blijk van interesse. Wij hadden eigenlijk ook helemaal geen zin meer om een nagerecht te bestellen S,avonds zaten de spareribs ons nog flink dwars tot misselijk aan toe .. Alles bij elkaar .. een slechte en nare ervaring . Beter geen spareribs daar eten op woensdag en donderdag als je toch geen gebruik wil maken van het all you can eat concept. Voor ons .. wij laten fat allice wel even...

I dont know how this place got 4 stars, ..... anyone who has ever eaten real cajun ribs would know that the ribs from this restaurant are about as close to cajun as the North Pole is to the Sahara desert.....with a description of Pittig... just laughable....bland dry carpet would be a better description. And when we said we didnt enjoy them the waitress replied with okay....no sorry to hear it or what was wrong?... no interest in the customer what so ever. This used to be my favourite restaurant many years ago when it was in Ermelo but now its not worth a visit.... disappointing to say the least. This Fat Alice restaurant...
