Top 1,000 places to visit before you die..well, according to some article a co-worker of mine read. I've never been to such a fancy resturant before, but hey there's a first for everything, right? To start off, you pull up to this resturant and the lady sprints out of the resturant and follows your car until you park just so she can open the door for you (quite funny actually). You walk in and it's the usual greetings and can I take your coat , but then they take you over to this little waiting area and serve you beer, wine or champagne...real champange, from France! Best bubbly I've had thus far! The resturant isn't that big, but with menu prices like theirs you don't need much service. Also, the menu seems small, but my oh my do they serve a great deal of courses....plate after plate (small portions, but don't worry you'll leave stuffed). The best dish of the night was a tie between the wagyu and the souffle ...not to say the other dishes weren't delicious because they most definitely were, but the wagyu and souffle were hands down one of the best things I've ever tasted. The overall ambiance of the resturant is what gives it five stars for me. The waiting staff dressed in matching outfits with matching haircuts/styles, whenever you got up someone was waiting behind you to pull out your seat, constant flow of beverages (never an empty glass), a cheese course to "cleanse your palate"...I mean they even went as far as to get me a chair for my purse! A wooden stool nonetheless, but still! Overall great experience and I'm...
Read moreA fantastic food experience with high quality creative dishes, exceptional decor and atmosphere, and a professional team…. but they’ll need to dot their i’s and cross their t’s if they want to reclaim their 3 stars.
A lot of thought has gone into the 7 course set meal (+ appetisers) which create a well balanced food experience. Among other things we were able to come to the kitchen for one of the dishes and watch the chefs make it and explain it which was great fun.
The dessert stood out for being absolutely perfectly balanced. The Somaliër also shone for her exceptional knowledge and ability to explain specific choices for the wine to match the food. The extra caviar dish was spectacular.
Service was highly coordinated, always serving/clearing two plates at a time, and always friendly.
My one critique for a restaurant that’s going for 3 stars - towards the end of the night some cracks were showing; Knives/forks placed in a rush somewhat sloppily/ not straight. Critically once a cheese garnish was served in a rush and actually spilled over me. we could see the team arguing with one another water glasses slow to be refilled
Small details that wouldn’t ordinarily be noteworthy, but at this level you do expect something close to perfection.
Still, a fantastic experience and a restaurant I would happily rate 5/5...
Read moreInter Scaldes, a gem of a restaurant. A manor house beautifully situated in Zeeland’s open pasture. On the 3rd of October, me and my family went to this special place for a special birthday. Bad timing though because at that time, Rona in the Netherlands was going to make its second comeback with large increase in daily cases. Unfortunately, we had to sit at seperate tables. Also (intelligent) lockdown was imminent so not suprisingly, also this restaurant was hauling in customers with as much throughput as possible. The reception and serving was rather hasty. 8 courses we had and before I could understand one perfect meal, I was served the next. They apologised but it felt bad missing out on the details of the complex tastes. Unprecedented creativity was applied for most of the dishes for which I bow deeply (particularly interesting was the different preparations of the oysters and the olive oil vanilla ice cream at the end). It was an amazing experience which I will never forget. 5 stars were it not for the quick customer rotation system making it feel a bit... ya less special...
