Authentic old Frisian living room environment. Old dining room tables, chairs, lamps and wall ornaments. Very nice atmosphere. Amicable service. Quick and uncomplicated. The menu is humorous with Frisian sayings as menu items. Price is higher than expected for the place you are but than the portions must be good. The food is served very nicely. The chef has put some thought into this. Portion wise is where I find a disconnect. A chicken thigh cut up in two small/medium sized skewers is sub standard. I am happy to pay a bit more to help you through a difficult period, but EUR 19 for that is too much. The rump steak reasonable (medium sized) but we must have met a tough cow. Quit chewy. On the plus side, the BBQ ribs were perfectly cooked and a good portion for the price. We made the server aware that we felt the portion of the skewers was not as expected and she offered straight away to do something about it. But a shy diner didn't want to make more of it. Unfortunately we didn't experience the same others did because the place and ambiance is nice enough. But the pricing for what was offered put us of. So much so that we didn't opt for the ice and/or coffee after. 5 stars if the portion price ratio is more in line with similar establishments...

I have never had this happen at a restaurant before. I have never left a main course mainly uneaten. Everyone at the table who tried it agreed it was terrible. And even presentation was bad - a heavy slab of something not at all resembling a (slice of) quiche - main ingredient lots of barely cooked sliced (green) leek. Mine was even served with the crust already falling off on the plate. We told the waitress it was not good and she came back from the kitchen to say that this is the chef’s version of quiche and maybe it was just not to our taste… they did offer to give us something else but we had lost our appetite by then. We had to pay for the uneaten quiche. Rest of the food was fine, but nothing special. The other people at the table had a nice meal. Very loud acoustics, but a really lovely interior. And very nice wait staff. So nice place but just would not order...
