Family Axel Eethuis-Cafetaria — Restaurant in Terneuzen

A very popular place to eat in Axel, with a helpful and friendly staff.

When we arrived for lunch at one thirty in the afternoon on a weekday, the place was packed. We were given seats in a waiting area where we ordered something to drink until a table became available.

The building is an old church and the restaurant is cleverly designed in it. The food choices are quite varied, but don't expect 'regular' bread (except for the burgers). Everything comes in flatbread or 'oerbrood.' You can customize your order.

A kids menu with regular snacks is available. Also for kids, there is a play area and they can get crayons and a coloring page at the table to keep themselves busy.

There is a large outdoor dining area, but the weather wasn't very nice, so it was empty when we were there.

Very nice and friendly place to sit. Even though its in an old church it feels like a very pleasant place to sit. The staff was friendly and we were helped quite fast. The food however was a mixed bag of feelings. The spareribs were the worst, the taste was rubbery and standard for frozen ribs. No personal touch added. Felt like something anyone can buy in any store and just warm it up. The family schnitzel was very nice. Good structure and nice use of spices. For desert the waffle was waaay to crunchy with too much air inside. The donut had amazing taste

Overall food...

Heb er vandaag gegeten. De 2 spaghetti's (beiden hebben zelfde mening hierover) waren koud bij aankomst op tafel. Dit is opzich vreemd gezien de pasta te ver doorgekookt was. Hieruit kan in principe al geconcludeerd worden dat deze niet vers gekookt was.

Het eten hebben we met de omschrijving dat deze koud was teruggestuurd. Vervolgens kregen we de zelfde reeds gemengde paste opnieuw koud terug. Conclusie: de magnetron was niet goed ingesteld.

Het eten was verder smaakloos. Persoonlijk vind ik een opwarmmaaltijd van de supermarkt meer smaak hebben.

Na eten kwam de vraag of het gesmaakt had. Dit verhaal verteld met als tegenreactie dat ik de smaak niet aangegeven had en er niks meer gedaan kon worden aangezien het op was.

Naar mijn mening controleer je de tevredenheid van een gast tijdens het eten en er niet na. Zeker wanneer er al 2 maal een klacht gegeven is. Uiteindelijk gaan mensen gewoon eten als ze honger hebben, al dan niet lekker. Zeker als ze hun bord al 2 maal hebben zien verdwijnen.

Verder is de spaghetti portie klein in vergelijking met wat gemiddeld in een horecagelegenheid gegeven wordt.
