Madestein Restaurant & Events — Restaurant in The Hague

Poor food and service on our last visit. It all Started with our starter. We ordered sushi and had to ask to get some sticks along with soy sauce.

After the starter, we ordered risotto. I understand they don’t speak Italian, but the risotto was the opposite of ‘Al Dente’. It was more a risotto soup.

We also ordered the Burger. The Madestein Burger was so rare that I could still hear the cow “moo”. The fries that we ordered along with the burger came around 15 minutes after.

We talked to the waiter to address these topics and we received the following feedback: “what do you want me to do with this”. Not so professional.

As a consolation price, we’re offered free coffee if we decided to get a dessert. As you can imagine we kindly declined.

I loved coming to this place, but their long unchanged menu and in your face attitude of 'no free water, not even 20cl , take it or leave it and I don't care how often you come here... really puts a bad after taste despite whatever good you have eaten. Guess it will take a while for them to change given there are very few restaurants in the neighbourhood and there is no true competition thus poor gastvriendlijkheid. Make a little more effort and head for restaurants on the Kijkduin beach.They try harder to please...

We wanted grab a bite and a drink on our walk in the park. The host was very reluctant and unfriendly. Worse, I was stopped on my way to the wc by an older employee and told "the toilets for campers are outside" ... while being a paying customer. What a shallow, outdated way of gatekeeping hospitality. I guess I wasn't dressed boring enough to be considered a patron. The desserts and coffee were alright and the servers were better than the host and that older employee. Not gonna be...
