Hut Van Mie Pils — Restaurant in Waalre

Lovely little place in the middle of nowhere, very popular with hobby bikers and the regular joes like us who show up for a beer and some snacks after buying a new bike and decided to put it to the test by biking outside of the city limits and stop for some beer and bitterballen.

It’s a cute terras that has a lot of places to sit but unfortunately there are a lot of mosquitoes 🦟🦟🦟 that will float around your drink and any part of exposed skin you have.

Sitting in the terrace means that it’s a self service type of deal where you get to relive your days working in horeca with your tray and your party’s orders.

The good thing about it being a self service terrace in the middle of the woods is that everyone tends to stick to themselves; the place was rather busy but there weren’t much people directly around us or staff checking in on us, so we had all the freedom and privacy to talk about whatever without any worries about the people around us.

There’s a nice beer menu but there are no prices on it.

We got 2 rounds of beers and snacks adding up to 16ish each. Pretty decent pricing if you go tikkie wise.

This is located in the park and primarily intended for people who are jogging, walking their pets (dogs, cats), or running. We initially misunderstood it to be a perfect lunch spot for families and children, only realizing otherwise after entering. Outside the restaurant, there was a lot of mud due to the rain, and the parking area was filled with water and mud. We asked the leftover to be packed to not waste the food and were immediately informed by the owner that from January 2025, you have to pay for it (I felt it bit rude because I was calming down the baby who was crying becaus of dogs barking inside the restrsunt). We waren met een grote familie groep. Toen we aankwamen was er niets voor ons klaargezet en moesten we zelf tafels/stoelen klaarzetten.Zoals afgesproken met het restaurant gingen we als groep wandelen en daarna eten, bij terugkomst was een van de gereserveerde tafels weggegeven waardoor 8 man en half uur hebben gestaan tot er iets geregeld werd. Uiteindelijk met eten waren er niet genoeg tafels waardoor we geen ruimte hadden om te eten aan tafel.

We zaten in het binnen/buiten gedeelte wat overduidelijk geen geachikte plek is voor de winter. Het dak is niet goed afgesloten waardoor er op meerdere plekken constant waterdruppels op de tafel, dus ook op je eten en op jezelf krijgt, niet aangenaam. De hele ruimte is niet comfortabel en tocht aan alle kanten, aan de ene kant voel je veel kou/trek en aan de andere kant hitte van de heaters.

Twee jongens in de bedienig zijn er netjes, vriendelijk en doen hun best. De oudere vrouw, vermoedelijk de eigenaar/manager daarin tegen kan situaties niet handelen en schuift de 'schuld' in de schoenen van klanten. Toen er iets mis ging met de bestelling lag dat aan ons, toen we teeuggaven dat er iets met het eten niet naar wens lag, kon dat ook niet aan hun liggen etc.

Het eten was oke, de hamburger was gewoon prima echter was de schitzel zeer klein en niet heel lekker. Doordat we wat mis ging met de bestelling, kregen drie personen pas hun eten ruim 30min later dan de rest. Ook overdag moesten we zeer lang wachten op onze drankjes en soms werden deze ook vergeten.

Al met al; een zeer ongeorganiseerde dag in een niet comfortabele locatie. Duidelijk onderbezetting van personeel, wat vervelend is. Echter begrijp ik dan niet als ze dat weten dat ze de tent zo vol laten lopen, zoveel...
