De Witte Swaen — Restaurant in Waterland

A middle of the road restaurant with a heavy focus on pancakes. There's a decent outside seating area with a hedge around part of it, and the road next to it isn't too busy. The tiles are uneven in the area with the hedge so some of the chairs are wobbly. The service was nice and simple, with clear printed menus and practical waitstaff. I tried a banana, cheese, and ginger pancake. The pancake itself was a nice classic Dutch pancake and the covering was rich. I felt like the combination of ingredients worked well, but there was too much ginger (about a quarter of the toppings). It wasn't terrible by any means, but not good either. We waited for our food for over an hour. When asked the waiter explained that the more people order the faster they get the food. Sadly, it must not have been the case as two people next to us that came 45 minutes later than us got their food in around 10 minutes. Food was good and the place looked very cozy, however the service was extremely disappointing. The waiter didn’t apologise. The bill was 50% higher than it was...

The town is small and not many options but the one that was open was cute, friendly, and tasty. Our server was super sweet and she took good care of us. I think everyone enjoyed their food, from soups, to fondue, to cod. I was thinking the fried fish was going to be like fish and chips but it was pan fried and came with veggies, mashed potatoes, as well as fries.

Very enjoyable and nice escape...
