Absolutely fabulous in every way! I've lived in the area for 15 years with my Dutch wife and never visited Fort Asperen for a lunch visit until now and am thrilled I did, mainly because of the outstanding wait staff and food. Our waiter, Max, has a personality and charm to knock your socks off--positive, upbeat, cheerful, informative (almost a sommelier, who helped sell me on one of their expensive wines when I asked questions!). It was important to him to also include his colleagues (Ava-Kee--also a cheerful waiter!--and Sven, the bartender) when I told him I wanted to give him a good review. Clearly a good TEAM, working together to make the atmosphere and dining experience something not to forget. When my American children in their 50's and my grandson, age 25, come to visit me, I can hardly wait to share the place with them. They...

We visited the restaurant twice during our stay in Leerdam. The first time we had drinks and light snacks after visiting the fort. We had a very pleasant time with friendly service, and as we watched generously sized meat and cheese trays, and other items being delivered to other tables we decided to come back. We were glad we did. The room is simply, but elegantly arrayed, with nice music playing. The food service began with a small loaf of warm tasty bread served with butter, olive oil and pesto. I had a tasty steak and my wife had an equally well prepared fish and shrimp dish. We had a Dame Blanche for dessert. Our server was engaging and served us very nicely. We had a great time and would happily return when we are next...
