Mooi Zeist is, in my opinion, the best Indonesian restaurant in the Utrecht area. The restaurant is located in a quiet neighborhood of Zeist, they have free parking facilities and an outside terrace (perfect for warm summer evenings). I can highly recommend every item on their menu but also the buffet on Saturday evening is divine! It's all delicious and made with love. The ambiance and chairs in a restaurant, to me, are very important; the ambiance here is good! They have good lighting, comfortable seats and it's cosy. Great food and atmosphere.

The location is a bit odd in the middle of a residential area, but as soon as you drive on the lot it feels like you're in Indonesia.

We had the small rijsttafel and it was delicious. And the portion size is huge. Don't be dissuaded by the word 'small' because that doesn't do it justice.

Originally we wanted to go for the '1 meter satay' dish but apparently none of the satay options other than chicken are gluten free. But the small rijsttafel was gluten free. If I recall correctly they swapped out just 1 dish to make it entirely gluten free.

Spectacular Indonesian food in a serene and upscale setting. The quality of the ingredients, preparation and service are first-rate. If you have had Indonesian food in the past you may be in for a very pleasant surprise. The subtle fragrances of the spices linger. A lamb salad has juicy lamb that is tender and flavorful.
