Disappointed. Food was very pricey for what you get. I was pretty horrified. Wish I'd taken pictures. Location has a nice view, but you need more than just that, to get me there again.

**The owner/manager has asked me to clarity. The whole point of a review is to share my experience. If you look at my other reviews you'll see I eat out all the time. If I have a good experience I state that. If not, then I'll say that too. I have extensive hospitality experience.

We had already been warned that the 'cafe' had changed hands and was not as it had once been, but were prepared to give it a go as we were from out of town and wanted to go for a drive and have something to eat. I was not paying, I was there as a guest of the people we were with, it was our first meeting together. We were all disappointed with our meals for different reasons. My reason was the tiny portion, the Prawn dish. But I was 'horrified' by the dish served to my host, the vegetarian breakfast which quite frankly looked disguising (sloppy comes to mind), being a pensioner and from another generation, he was not prepared to make a fuss. I only wish I'd taken a photo. The chef (cook) and server had the opportunity to fix it before it was placed on our table.

I think on this occasion we should have tried McDonalds. At least you know what you're getting. Perhaps the Owner/Manager of this establishment need to get out of Maketu and experience what people get for their...

Under new management since the last time we went out here about a year ago & I'm disappointed to say not for the better. View is beautiful, as usual, but food, service & coffee not good. I ordered a vanilla latte and it tasted disgusting. Couldn't drink it. That's never happened to me at any other Cafe. Fish Burger & Chips were bland. No salt on the chips & they were cold. No salt & pepper on the tables. My Sister had Fish & Chips, which was $28 & it was quite a small meal for that amount of money & it was also bland with no tartare sauce, or salt. Fish was tarakihi & it wasn't very fresh, or flavoursome. She was served her meal before her wine. I would have complained about the coffee, but the lady taking orders & serving didn't seem overly approachable. When my Sister asked for her wine & sauce she mumbled while she was walking away that she was busy, but not that many people in the cafe. Owners need to look at these recent reviews & make a change for the better....

We visited the Maketu Cafe Thursday 4th August 2022 and had the pancakes with bacon, cream banana and maple syrup. It was absolutely delicious ! The location was amazing being right on the water meant you could watch the waves and boats come and go from the estuary. Such a beautiful day and made even better by the friendly helpful staff. We would happily travel from the Mount again just for the coffee and cake out of the cabinet . We have just been back to the Maketu Cafe 24 August 2022 to see if it was as good as last time. We were not disappointed. The French / now Kiwi waitress is an absolute delight. She is friendly and genuinely engages in conversation showing a real interest in the customers . This will definitely be our go to cafe when we want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the Mount. During the week is a great time to go as there are less crowds.
