River Restaurant and Takeaways — Restaurant in Canterbury

The food was great chips the kids loved 🥰 unfortunately the hot dogs were not the greatest. But the customer service absolutely discouraging and the vibe was yuck ! I grabbed x2 pottles of chips and x2 hot dogs and the good old jimmys pie while I was grabbing the chips popping it into the bag that lady behind the counter makes a rude remark “ you can just take the pottle “ I said thanks and grabbed the x2 bags anyway then she stated laughing I’ve never seen that before . Well here I am explaining myself I have 2 little children that wouldn’t be able to use the pottles without spilling. It was unnecessary and down grading a way to make someone feel very welcome then to carry it on go behind the counter and make a joke with the other lady about it I was pretty disgusted I thought wow so cool to see what I thought was like a small family until that moment I’m pretty disappointed to be fair and I hope other people experience is a...

This cafe is at the end of town, past all the smarter looking cafes but is well worth the extra walk/ drive. Great people behind the counter welcomed us with a smile and a chat then cooked us up a couple of brilliant hamburgers. We have stayed for 2 months in NZ and this was our first unpleasant cafe/restaurant experience here. We are pretty easy going when it comes to food and service but we didn’t get the positive vibes from this place. They messed up our order and also we chose to sit on the couch for our lunch but the lady who served asked if we can sit on the table. Why even have a couch if it was not allowed for service.
