I cannot believe the amount of disrespect the owner of this shop did to my family. We walked in to the shop to grab a quick pie on the way to our destination and then while waiting for the others to order, we sat at the front bench. A few of my family members who are (MÄori) had a coffee flask sitting at the front waiting for the others to order, then a person came out of the shop which was apparently the (owner) of the shop and basically told us in a rude manner telling us ā Can you guys move because you havenāt ordered anythingā (even though we had ordered 5 pies) He could have just been nice and told us āHave you guys ordered anything, if not is it alright if you can move somewhere elseā. Then we would have moved somewhere else. But then he accused us of not ordering anything from the menu and heās been watching us for 5mins (even though we ordered 5 pies from the shop). A racist who put on an attitude towards my grandparents because of their heritage. An absolute disgrace of an attitude by the owner to his customers. Said some other pretty awful things to my family which is in doubt ridiculous.Definitely wonāt be coming back here anytime soon and donāt recommend anyone to support this business again. Grow some...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVisited here regularly as a child in the 70's & 80's, always a special treat travelling from Kaikoura to Christchurch. The patrons/staff are nice & friendly. The coffee was good too. However the most expensive in N.Z. at $6 a cup! The cabinet food left little to be desired and was dried out, old & crusty when we were there at 11am. The toilet block is abysmal & needs to be pulled down. Have visited over the past few years for sentimentality, but unlikely to return. Morning tea $30 for two. I get it - with remote locations, (the food being dearer), but at least make sure it is good. Unlikely I'll visit again, next time I'll try the 4Square, where another member of our group got fresh food for $10. Good luck...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe drive through Cheviot on a regular basis and support all the cafes there for a coffee. The 4th of July 2025 I ordered the salmon bagel while at The Cheviot Tea Rooms. After consuming the bottom half with all the filling, I turned the top over to eat separately and to my horror the cream cheese was literally like a dried up riverbed with cracks through it and was no longer white but yellow! I wish I had photographed it to show you! There was no way it was made that day. Of course I didnāt eat it and worried the rest of the day, if I was going to get sick from the bottom half that I did eat. Their food safety practices are concerning. We...
