I had high expectations for this winery after tasting their wines and having friends and colleagues recommend it... These expectations were smashed. The almost 1-hour drive was soooo worth it. The scenery around Bannockburn in the autumn was beautiful. Once there, we were greeted by the bubbly and passionate Charlie who gave a wonderful cellar door tasting. Sadly one of my faves, the Billet-Doux was sold out, but really not surprised as it's one of the best wines at its price point. The cellar door wines were lovely but the really fun begins with their Pinot Noirs. With their Pinot Noir tasting flight, it was magical. The Magnetic was beautiful, the Arthur's Vineyard was stunning, and the Excelsior was hands down one of the best wines I've ever had. They had a limited menu as it was off-season but their salmon board was so tasty. Will definitely be back for a restaurant experience. Then there's the view... Wow! The Restaurant view is something out of a fairytale and I'm sure each season offers equally picturesque views for patrons.
Can't wait for my wines to arrive! Thanks to the team for the wonderful hospitality. Keep doing what...
Read moreGee, hope we didn't bump into the same staff that the other visitor mentioned within a week! The greeting, if any, was so unwelcoming. We literally got told off when we were planning to settle in a nice sheltered place outside to sit and dine. Sorry, this is a private space. You can't sit here. There is a sign there to say this, the staff said this to us and just walked away. I then saw a half A4 sized note at knee high on one side of the enclosure to tell a bit about using the area. Sol saved the day with her passion for decent service at the restaurant and the food was brilliant. One guest at the same time who seemed to visit the place quite often told us the people there are fuzzy. Well, I understand the host has the right to decide how they want their place to be managed, but it doesn't mean you need to put off someone at their first visit to your service. We visited a few wine places in the area, and I'm sure there's a better way to welcome your sensible customers into your place and make them...
Read moreMost tasteless pizza in Cromwell; cheap ingredients, overpriced...would have expected better. We ordered a garlic pizza and you could not taste the garlic at all. We found out afterwards that it did not actually have garlic pieces, but was made with cheap garlic butter, and so that explained why it had no flavour.
Our second pizza had chicken and each slice only had one small piece on it, so one bite and all the chicken was gone basically. We passed on our criticisms to the staff in the food truck and our views were dismissed and barely acknowledged. The staff claimed that "they were just following the recipe" but this just goes to show that they don't even know what they're making and whether the food is edible. An apology by the head cook/ chef would have been...
