This place is 8min from my place and I had no idea it existed! I have never tried Napalese food before, so I headed to GURKHA to try some.
We order chicken Chilli momos and I can say, hand down the best Momos I tried! They were full and juicy and delicious! 10/10
We ordered chicken sekuwa and it was an absolutely delightful dish. It was a skewer chicken dish but better than any Indian skewer you tried. I couldn't stop eating it! 10/10
Next, Lamb Choyla (my fav dish there). I can't explain the flavor. It was delicious...it's a dry lamb dish and I would eat the whole plate myself. 10/10
We also ordered a chef special curry and it was amazingly tasty. Garlic Naan was ok little on the thin side. Mango Lassi was thick and tasty, strawberry one...not so much! More like a milkshake. The lychee strawberry punch was delicious. We ended the night with Kulfi ..yum!
The staff were Attentive, always filling our water, asking if we needed anything etc. Their in-training waiter was just wonderful and Neil the main host was very friendly and helpful.
Atmosphere was fine....I am very observant about my surroundings and their paintings were hung crooked and that was distracting me all night (but that's an OCD problem of mine). Lol
Overall, a wonderful experience. I will def go back for the...
Read moreWriting a review for Gorkha has been on my mind since I sat in a corner last Friday evening experiencing what can only be described as an outer body experience. .... My husband and I had been on a walk about hopping from one restaurant to the next here in Bucklands . We had just walked out of the previous place due to the poor service and absolutely no atmosphere I might add ... When we stumbled upon Gorkha .
We were met by someone opening the door for us and gave a the most amazing welcome....much like you'd welcome guests you anxiously expecting. As soon as we were seated a lovely lady poured us a glass of water with the warmest most sincere smile. The place was pumping. We asked the water waitress what her favorite thing to eat is ... In her broken English she pointed at something on the menu and slipped away to promptly attend to someone else . When our waiter came we asked him what it couldn't have been she was suggesting.... He said he wasn't sure but suggested the butter chicken and a goat curry .
O my lord !!! I sat thanking God for my taste buds! Forgetting my husbands existence.. I ate with my hands and everything moved in slow motion ( yes as I mentioned earlier this was not our first stop for the night) .
Absolutely a moment in my life I will savor!
It's not...
Read moreSpace & Ambiance The space was well-designed and inviting, with a cozy vibe enhanced by the wooden table and brass decor. The beachfront location adds a unique and scenic touch, making it a standout spot.
Food The lamb Indo dish was delicious, featuring tender lamb in a glossy, spicy-sweet sauce with bell peppers, onions, and green onions. The accompanying momo was equally tasty, with a flavorful filling. The presentation was appetizing, and the portion size seemed ideal for one. I consider it one of the top 10 Indian restaurant I've seen in NZ, though naan or rice would’ve completed the experience.
Service Staff were friendly and attentive, contributing to a pleasant dining experience.
Value A bit expensive, but the quality, beachfront setting, and overall experience make it understandable and worth it.
Overall Impression This ranks among the top Indian restaurants I’ve encountered in NZ. Recommended for food lovers, especially for the unique lamb Indo offering and scenic location. A slight price premium is justified, though budget-conscious diners might plan...
