Eggs Benetricked - Such Promise, Not Such Delivery.

It was inspired by a beautiful Easter sunshine that my party and I stopped upon Windermere Berry Farm. Upon exiting the car, we smelt the scent of eggs and bacon and could not resist the promise of breakfast. Especially in such a setting! Oh my, the sights! One can almost hear the strawberries grow! While we were utterly enchanted by the experience, the food did not lead to such gleeful contentment. Please see below for breakdown of disappointment.

Here pictured is: An eggs benedict - not so divine after all, despite Easter. They were covered not in hollandaise, but in mayonnaise… Those words may rhyme but we are no fools… $22 for bread, eggs and ready-made sauce? Nay. A panini with no sufficient insides. See aforementioned appendix photography for evidence.

The coffee also came out 10 minutes after the food.

We did appreciate the vegetarian options, for such a removed location. And the photo cut-out llama selfie wall? Stupendous.

All in all, we were disappointed with the food, given the big city costs. Our final piece of wisdom? Purchase...

So close, yet so far…

Great berries, cool farm, and Alpacas!

Unfortunately, though we were in line at 1:55 and the place was exceedingly busy, the arbitrarily stop serving pancakes at 2:00. We were pretty disappointed as we saw many of the guests eating them and they look pretty amazing.

This was mildly frustrating, but the real problem lies with how they package their drinks/berries — all non-compostable plastic!! Very disappointing to see this sort of eco-hostility from a bustling farm in 2022. C’mon you guys, there are heaps of affordable, eco-friendly, plastic-free alternatives out there.

I hope they fix the plastic packaging issue as this was really sad to see. Would also be great to be able to get some of their famous pancakes after the arbitrary cut-off time of 2:00, especially if they’re as busy as they were at the time (must have missed out on hundreds of dollars worth of orders by closing down the grill), but I’m not going to hold that against them. The plastic is unforgivable, though, there’s really no...

My family would go to this place each time we visit Wanganui. But lately the service is getting slower. Today, we waited for pancakes for over 40 mins. Midway to this way, my daughter asked to follow up with the order. Our order slip was not on the board. But we were told that it’ll just be five mins. The said she doesn’t understand what we’re trying to say. We clearly are waiting a long time for pancakes. We had appointments to go to. So after she said five mins we waited another 15-20 mins for a very sugary, maple drenched $20 pancake loaded with strawberries. It's a great idea to have this in Wanganui. However, it is under serviced... as a lot of people have already pointed out on online reviews. It would also help if their staff would be more attentive to customers who are waiting and not just say they don't know or understand why they are following up. Unfortunately, we may not come...

We drove from Porirua to the Windermere Berry Farm. 2.5 to 3 hours, very pleasant drive. The Farm has a shop at the end of the entrance drive, and that was where the action took place. The farm was out of season, so the foodstuffs was on the shop and restaurant... and the alpaca. We ate fully, without shame, as you will see in the photos. 2 of us ate their strawberry pancakes with yogurt and a tad of confectioners sugar. More than expected abs pleasantly so. They advertise the best, lightest strawberry pancakes, and it was true. Excellent! 2 of us ate their eggs Benedict, one with hollandaise, the other without, also reported to be excellent. Ice cream and other fruit items were available including several berry wines. I needed to hit the lav, which is behind the restaurant, and there to the left were the two alpaca, relaxed and settled. Great fun with the drive!

This is an ok place for strawberry picking. The strawberry’s are grown in a sort of glasshouse. The quality ain’t comparable to the strawberry farms of South Island. The berry’s aren’t sweet and go bad very quickly. The 15$ box is standard especially post Covid when everything has risen in price significantly. The ice cream 6.5$ is ok. The can drinks are expensive (6.5$). And cabinet food is ok from a taste perspective. Extremely busy during Summers and check before hand if picking is open or not (not available everyday) . Service lags considerably (we had to wait 20-25 mins for an ice cream ) I assume this is a family run business so quite acceptable of what you get but there is huge room for improvement. There is a pair of alpacas but not for interaction. Try other places if you have an option.
