Order: Fish, Chips, Paua fritter and battered sausage. Cost: $27.20
The fish fillet was Hoki snapped frozen before reaching the store to ensure freshness. Despite it’s naturally small size, the fillet was super soft contrasted by the golden crunch of the batter. Balanced batter content to ensure it didn’t hold too much oil. They do offer Gurnard as an option, and in hindsight, it was the better option due to size.
Paua fritter - The fillet was finely minced and I didn’t detect any onion. It had more batter than the Hoki fillet, and thus was oily. The taste was okay not as pronounced as some other Paua fritters I’ve had. Overall it was okay.
Battered sausage - First time having one of these as I’m a battered hotdog kinda a guy. It was enjoyable and tasted exactly as one would expect. Batter was balanced and sizing was big.
The chips were Crinkle cut, and IMHO, the king of all chips. The curved edges provide more scope for crunchiness which safeguard its pillowy centre. Cooked to perfection with low oil residue.
The Pirimai Chippy is a very popular venue and MUST be at the top of your chippy dinner list when in Napier.
Friendly and well staffed when I popped in yesterday (Friday), very clean premises. Absolute Winner...
Read moreFirst time to this takeaways place and the best we have experienced or come across to date. My wife had heard good things from colleagues so our expectations were high. We were not disappointed. On first seeing the shop it was very clean, tidy snd well laid out. The best takeaways place we have ever seen. The floor had hard wearing carpet, made an excellent change from the usual linoleum. The drinks fridge was very clean and tidy, a pleasant sight to the eye. The menu board was clean, colorful and professional in appearance. The staff were awesomely friendly and even took the time to hold the bead curtain for you as you left the place with your order. Wow. And then there is the fish and chips itself. Excellent. Cooked very well, hot, not overdone or underdone, crispy to the taste, no lingering oily taste, from the chips, to the fish, the potato fritter, to the gourmet paua fritter. As I said the best we have come across, in all facets. Congratulations to the staff and the owners. You have lifelong customers in us and fervent Champions who will highly recommend your place to all. Nga mihi...
Read moreWell... I read the reviews for this place and went here expecting some really good chips.
I got a whole lot more than that...
I got service with a smile. Top notch service. As soon I walked in the door I was greeted by the gentleman working the till who seemed very happy.
When I paid for my order I was handed my receipt and was wished a great afternoon. Someone then popped up beside me with my order, and to my surprise, opens the door for me, wishes me a good afternoon, and then closes the door behind me.
The chips were to die for. They do a variety of cuts as well like straight, crinkle and chunky.
If you don't think that's impeccable service then I'm not sure what is. Will definitely be coming back here when given the...
