Disappointed and Disrespected on Mother’s Day

We visited Fisherman’s Table with high hopes for a nice Mother’s Day celebration. While the wait staff were friendly and accommodating, the experience was completely soured by the rude and unprofessional behaviour of the so called owner/manager.

As foodies, we always generously order to thoroughly enjoy our meal. However, we couldn’t finish everything and had a nearly full bowl of Pete’s Pot, half of moray sauce along with some other leftovers. For 4 adults and a child we ordered a seafood platter 3/10 tasteleess garlic bread 9/10 Potato skins with ham 5/10 average Seafood Chowder 3/10 jelly like Fresh fish Monray Main 2/10 bland and doughy Petes Pot Main 4/10 Seafood Pasta Light 7/10 average Plus drinks

When we asked for a takeaway container, the staff member said they didn’t have any and never offered takeaway. Wanting to avoid waste, I asked to speak with a manager—only to be met with hostility.

The manager was immediately defensive and dismissive. He said this wasn’t a takeaway restaurant and we were expected to finish everything. When I expressed concern about wasting food, he claimed they didn’t have a takeaway license because seafood “goes off in 30 minutes, and not safe to consume” which made little sense considering it had already been on our table for that long. When I tried to respond, he cut me off and said, “Stop playing games with me,” which I found appalling.

His attitude was arrogant and disrespectful, even saying “some people eat too much salad and can’t finish their mains”—a completely unnecessary comment. Eventually, he reluctantly packed the food in foil, draining all the liquid, but the damage was done. The way we were spoken to left a bad taste in our mouths and ruined what was meant to be a special day.

The food was okay, the staff were doing their best, but the owner’s attitude and lack of customer respect were unacceptable. If takeaway is not offered, that should be clearly stated on the menu or on the table. There’s a way to communicate policies, and this certainly wasn’t it.

Sadly, we won’t...

Went out to dinner with our 5 kids after a long day home. Staff were amazing and helped get us a last minute booking. However, we were rather underwhelmed at the food.

Between our family of 7, we had 4 kids meals (hotdogs and chips, cheeseburger and chips) and the portion sizing left much to be desired. Chips were cold and the kids meals came out rather quickly. Whilst it's helpful to have the kids eating and settled, waiting for our meals then became a bit of a task because the kids had already eaten and were ready to go again.

My husband ordered the Steak as a light meal (ribeye I'm on the understanding) and the seafood basket (again as a light meal) to share with our eldest boy. My eldest boy ordered the chicken tenderloins as a main and I ordered the stuffed mushrooms as a light meal.

All the adults light meals and mains came with access to the salad bar (all you can eat). There was a fair variety to choose from, including roasted potatoes, cauliflower cheese, carrots and sauces.

My husbands steak was cooked to perfection, but the seafood was slightly overcooked making it quite rubbery.

My son's tenderloins were more or less sliced chicken breast crumbed, as opposed to tenderloins as advertised.

My mushrooms however were the biggest disappointment of the night. The were slimy and tasted almost sour. They were definitely a 0/10. Which I was so disappointed about. We chose to pay and leave, and let staff know while leaving about the mushroom dish. (I was not expecting to be comped or anything - just wanted them to be aware as I am pregnant and it wasn't pleasant) Staff were kind about it and advised to next time tell the waitress during dinner. I did take them home with me for my dogs to have as a treat - they enjoyed them much more...

Went to lunch today at fisherman’s table, love the restaurant it self and the view is beautiful

But very disappointing as I used to come here with my family often and have moved away so was expecting it to be better

The waitress wasn't friendly and uninterested and got my order wrong, which shows she wasn’t listening I asked for a large seafood shower Got given a small and explained that with no sorry when it arrived or offer for a larger one My mum ordered a mussels and a salad boat and the mussels never arrived, nor did anyone come check for us to ask until we had finished and where leaving.

Currently on crutches and a broken arm the waitress told me I have to get my own water as they don’t give jugs to small tables and we have to get our own water. As one elderly women with a disability and can hardly carry the one glass of water without spilling it and myself who can’t carry one at all it is quite disappointing.

Seafood chowder 1/10 is like a jelly soup, the texture would be great in a pie but as a soup is rather distasteful, can’t tell between what fish is in the soup because it’s so thick and the taste takes away from the fish

Garlic bread- delicious 10/10 Except when asking the waitress how big the bread in regards to half or whole, she said a sourdough bread size- which actually could mean anything so ordered the half

I would have expressed this when paying but wasn’t asked how my meal was or anything and just said the price with a non friendly face

We will not be returning and that is very sad as this was my elderly mums favourite...

Visited for the first time, during a cold Wellington southerly evening, thinking I'd be one of a few diners. Wrong! The restaurant was half full and filling by 6pm. Deciding to have the dishes most on here had moaned about, I started with the chowder. It was flavoursome and enjoyable. Then the Salmon. Also really flavoursome and moist (a wonderful word)! Too often salmon is cooked too much and is dry and tastless. This was fresh and perfectly cooked. If you don't like oily fish with flavour, don't order it or stick to the tinned stuff at home. The salads all looked fresh and were very well presented. Deliberately going for the Potato Salad (previously reviewed as being 'raw') I found it the best example of par-boiled potatoes I can remember, with a really fresh tasting and non-greasy dressing. Thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you! My dessert was the Chocolate Scallop. Oh boy! Lovely, simple and took me back to being a kid, with ice creams, whipped cream and sauces. With my meal, I enjoyed a glass of Oyster Bay Pinot Gris. This all came to a very reasonable $71. The really warm greeting I enjoyed, great service and spectacular views were free, as was the very clean and unobtrusive restaurant space. Some grizzle about the decor... I really don't know why they'd want to be distracted from the view or the people they're with. Instead, the ambiance is warm, friendly and refreshingly lacking loud voices of hairdressers and truck drivers, as evident in a few of the more modern places. Thank you Fisherman's Table. I shall return
