All round excellent. Experience, food, service and setting. Hard to find something I didn't like here.
The staff greeted us with enthusiasm, were welcoming, friendly and efficient, even patient while we were trying to decide from their delicious looking, full menu.
There is an abundance of choice on the menu from breakfast to all day food, with vegan, gluten free and vegetarian options as well as a plethora of delicious, ready to eat options available from the cabinets.
We've stopped in here various times (primarily for breakfast) and have always left with a smile on our faces. The food is excellent and of a very high standard. Everything we've had here has been beautiful. Priced appropriately for what you're ordering, you won't be disappointed.
The cafe itself is warm and inviting. If you're dining inside there are a number of large and small tables, able to accommodate larger and smaller groups with ease, without feeling cramped. Even on a very busy day you'll find somewhere to sit with ease and not feel like you're dining with everyone around you. With a fireplace on cold mornings and fans on hot afternoons, you'll feel right at home here. The outdoor setting is great too. Very nice all round.
With a variety of things to see and do onsite, including a maze and antiques museum, you'll easily spend an hour or 2 here if you've got the time, in addition to having wonderful coffee and food.
A main stay for us whenever we're passing. 5 stars isn't a high enough rating for Flat Hills cafe. 10/10 easy.
NOTE If it's your thing, the banana and passionfruit smoothie is absolutely to die for. If nothing else,...
Read moreVery rude, abrupt and curt behaviour from the older blonde lady with specs (who I assume is the manager). My family (international guests) and I (local resident) were told in a very rude and abrupt way that we cannot use the bathroom if we are not purchasing anything. There is a way to speak to potential customers! We did end up purchasing drinks and used the outside table to have those drinks together with our own food. First, this rude thing told us that we can have our food at the outside table, but then she changed her story and essentially kicked us out for having our own food (even though we were having drinks purchased there). It was closing time and the table outside was not in use. Also, our use of the table did not prevent them from closing. So what loss is it to Flathills if we used the table??! We did not make a mess at all. We did purchase drinks. What harm does it do to Flathills if we have YOUR drinks with our food??
There is a way to speak to people (let alone customers) and to approach an issue. When I mentioned that she had ruined the reputation of Flathills for my first-time international visitors, I was plainly told "I am also from outside the country". Zero empathy. Zero accountability. Zero respect. Zero care. Massive attitude. And one very miserable, detestable, vile woman.
This entire situation could have been avoided with just some empathy and care in the way you treat your customer.
I WILL NEVER BE BACK AT FLATHILLS. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND FLATHILLS TO ANYONE. YOU DO NOT REPRESENT MY EXPERIENCE OF NEW ZEALAND'S WARM...
