All round excellent. Experience, food, service and setting. Hard to find something I didn't like here.

The staff greeted us with enthusiasm, were welcoming, friendly and efficient, even patient while we were trying to decide from their delicious looking, full menu.

There is an abundance of choice on the menu from breakfast to all day food, with vegan, gluten free and vegetarian options as well as a plethora of delicious, ready to eat options available from the cabinets.

We've stopped in here various times (primarily for breakfast) and have always left with a smile on our faces. The food is excellent and of a very high standard. Everything we've had here has been beautiful. Priced appropriately for what you're ordering, you won't be disappointed.

The cafe itself is warm and inviting. If you're dining inside there are a number of large and small tables, able to accommodate larger and smaller groups with ease, without feeling cramped. Even on a very busy day you'll find somewhere to sit with ease and not feel like you're dining with everyone around you. With a fireplace on cold mornings and fans on hot afternoons, you'll feel right at home here. The outdoor setting is great too. Very nice all round.

With a variety of things to see and do onsite, including a maze and antiques museum, you'll easily spend an hour or 2 here if you've got the time, in addition to having wonderful coffee and food.

A main stay for us whenever we're passing. 5 stars isn't a high enough rating for Flat Hills cafe. 10/10 easy.

NOTE If it's your thing, the banana and passionfruit smoothie is absolutely to die for. If nothing else,...

Very rude, abrupt and curt behaviour from the older blonde lady with specs (who I assume is the manager). My family (international guests) and I (local resident) were told in a very rude and abrupt way that we cannot use the bathroom if we are not purchasing anything. There is a way to speak to potential customers! We did end up purchasing drinks and used the outside table to have those drinks together with our own food. First, this rude thing told us that we can have our food at the outside table, but then she changed her story and essentially kicked us out for having our own food (even though we were having drinks purchased there). It was closing time and the table outside was not in use. Also, our use of the table did not prevent them from closing. So what loss is it to Flathills if we used the table??! We did not make a mess at all. We did purchase drinks. What harm does it do to Flathills if we have YOUR drinks with our food??

There is a way to speak to people (let alone customers) and to approach an issue. When I mentioned that she had ruined the reputation of Flathills for my first-time international visitors, I was plainly told "I am also from outside the country". Zero empathy. Zero accountability. Zero respect. Zero care. Massive attitude. And one very miserable, detestable, vile woman.

This entire situation could have been avoided with just some empathy and care in the way you treat your customer.

I WILL NEVER BE BACK AT FLATHILLS. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND FLATHILLS TO ANYONE. YOU DO NOT REPRESENT MY EXPERIENCE OF NEW ZEALAND'S WARM...

Flat Hills is more than just a country cafe...  Parents can relax whilst the kids run wild in our children's play area with bouncy castle and a maze on site. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating with access to the friendly farm animals where you can see and feed the ponies, goats, sheep, pig, llamas and alpacas, plus they serve good home made meals and coffee as well!!

Their Custard Squares, Lamb Burgers and Big Brekkies are known for miles around so next time you are passing why not stop in and enjoy these delights, especially if you are stopping in while travelling intercity buss.

They have plenty of parking for all including caravans, trailers, trucks, boats and is quit large so I would say that it would be easily able to accommodate group bookings.

There is free Wifi -and the addition of the campsite with Pod cabins means you can even stay the night!!

They are open EVERY day of the year.

THE BOUNCY CASTLE IS ALSO UP EVERY DAY!!

They have 13 powered sites set in the beautiful Flat Hills grounds amongst the amazing scenery and animals.

Four Pod Cabins which would be able to accommodate up to 4 people-two having two single beds and a queen bed, one Queen pod and one pod with King setting and they also have disabled access.

Each Pod has its own TV, mini fridge with tea and coffee making facilities, communal BBQ area and free Wifi in the café grounds.

PLUS they have just opened their new campers lounge where you can go relax in front of the big screen TV, book and kids play area as well...

Flat Hills Cafe and Tourist Park is an incredible destination that goes above and beyond to provide a delightful experience. The food at the cafe is sensational! From mouthwatering dishes to delectable treats, every bite was a culinary delight. The menu offers a diverse array of options, all prepared with care and bursting with flavor. The addition of the animal encounters was a fantastic touch. It was such a joy to interact with the friendly animals at the park. From petting adorable farm animals to learning about their care, it was an enriching and entertaining experience for visitors of all ages. And the maze was a blast! Navigating through it was both challenging and exciting, offering a unique adventure for everyone. The kids' area is simply amazing - it's clear that a lot of thought and effort has gone into creating a space that is not only fun but also safe for children. The variety of activities kept the little ones entertained for hours, and the staff's attentiveness added an extra layer of comfort for parents. Flat Hills Cafe and Tourist Park in New Zealand is a must-visit for families and anyone looking for a memorable day out. The combination of delectable food, interactive animal experiences, a thrilling maze, and an exceptional kids' area makes this place a standout gem in the tourism landscape. I can't wait to return and create more cherished memories in this wonderful haven!

After years driving past and forever wondering what the 'maze' was like, I finally took the time out to drop into here and was so glad I did! We arrived during the lunch time rush, with a couple of tourist buses parked up outside. However the queue moved quickly (multiple cashiers) and there was plenty of choice of homely meals to order, or cabinet food - both hot and cold. We all enjoyed our meals. A bar available too. Plenty of tables to choice from, both indoors and out to choose between depending on the weather. A free inflatable bouncy castle with slide was well received by our younger kids, plus some simple swings too for very young kids. In addition, a couple of pigs, a donkey (very placid and open to patting) and a bunny rabbit to see also. And the best part..? The maze! For only $2 per person (coins only) our kids thoroughly enjoyed wandering around the maze, something they'd ever done before. Not overly challenging, but still a good 15 minutes of entertainment for the 'big kids' too ;) Toilets with baby changing table and wheelchair table also. Not much more I could want for a nice stop over to take time out on your journey. Great stuff!
