Ever been on an aeroplane and find yourself looking down at the armrest next to you, at that little plug where the ashtray used to go? I look at that and say, what happened to this country? In a similar manner I look at this fish in chip shop and say "What happened!!".
Flour(y) potatos composing chips with small serves. Small servings are ok if they are gourmet! No way Jose they are gourmet!
Batter was ok. Less than ok if I compare to other roadside dives. Oil needed changing from a week ago. The cooking oil was good. Good for conversion into diesel.
Snapper fillets and oysters were half size (maybe even less) servings. $48 for one serving chips 3 snapper fillets and half dozen oysters isn't exactly value at the Oyster Farm gate. I worked in the Sydney Rock oyster industry and there are plenty of at the farm gate value eateries. This NZ version isn't like them.
Sublime outlook across the hazy summer day estuary where hammerhead sharks breed amongst the oyster racks and flounder underneath the pohoitakawa trees.........if only I could spell pohoitikawa!!! then I'd be a Kiwi. At least one feels calm as this joint is serving you substandard...
ย ย ย Read moreIf you go by the history of the reviews, I would guess this place used to be awesome. I don't know what has happened, but unfortunately, this was not the experience I had today. I waited 1h and 8 minutes for food at 5.30, which is the start of evening service. Despite the long wait time for food, they did not warn customers of, in my opinion, long wait time. While i was waiting, I had plenty of time to enjoy the scenery, which was nice, and they had some interesting history on billboards around the facilities. I did, however, also notice the lack of general care for the food they serve and the service they provide. Eg. I saw multiple people dealing with non-urgent tasks such as laundry(??) and finding towels. Both of these tasks should probably have been completed before the service started. I can't help but think this didn't help the long wait time for food. The staff was nice. However, with the obvious increasingly negative mood of the hungry customers, it felt disconnected with staff laughing in the kitchen. I would not recommend going here in the near future as I am sure you can catch a fish faster...
ย ย ย Read morestopped here for lunch today. there is a space to park a truck if you're coming from the east coast side. they didn't have any oysters due to it being spawning season, but I got fish, chips, crab stick and a cheeseburger. cost around $16. the fish was okay, being hoki which was all that was available, it was fresh, not too greasy and the batter was okay. the chips were beer battered steak cut and very nice. the cheeseburger was one of the best takeaway cheeseburgers I've had in a while. it wasn't too expensive, seven bucks or so, but it was delicious, nice and simple, the bun fresh, good sauce, patty cooked perfectly, plenty of real cheese, and it came with lettuce, tomato and grated carrots. I'm a big fan of carrots on burgers! only thing that would make the burger better is a slice or two of beetroot! the kid serving seemed a bit grumpy but he had manners. the order took about 10 minutes to receive. there are plenty of tables to eat on down by the water, and a public toilet to use. all in all, I it was good fish n chips and ill...
