Extremely disappointing experience across the board! We arrived after sunset, looking forward to a nice dinner, and were given a limited menu. Thus, we explicitly (!) asked if that was the menu and were reassured that it would be the only menu to choose from. The kid's menu offered more attractive meals - at least on paper! To our surprise, appetiser, cocktail, and mains were served together. Not exactly the course to make it a pleasant experience. Neither were we ever asked if we wanted more drinks or missed anything. Not to mention we were never asked if we would like to have a dessert and or coffee. The food was even less inspiring and mediocre at best, accompanied by salty chips, only edible when brushed off. The kid's (!) steak was served with an even more salty pepper (!) sauce over the meat and chips. Even if your kids like that, you wouldn't let them eat it. The whole thing got even more regretful when we noticed that minutes after our order had been taken, a different menu was offered to the guests next to us, with specials on a nice board. It seemed that locals get better treatment than tourists. If that's the case, be warned and look for another option. I rarely feel obliged to write a negative review; in our case, several errors might have occurred, from an inattentive waitress to a chef very much in love (with salt). However, here I would prefer if there is the option to give zero stars. In all fairness, confronted with our honest feedback, our bill was reduced by the meals, including chips, and we were politely asked to come again to allow them to prove it...

We are staying local and this is the third time we have tried to have a family meal at this restaurant three times as a family of 4. The traditional fish and chips was our choice, but they didn't have fish yesterday so today we called before going to ask if they had fish today. We were told they had and arrived 10 min after our call to be told that there were only 2 portions of fish left. We were quite surprised that a fish restaurant in the middle of a fishing village had ran out of fish. I did try to speak to the manager but was told thathe/she wasn't around which is quite surprising as they were selling liquor and the staff I spoke to didn't seem that bothered that 4 adult customers were turn back a third time. Service was poor, other people arrived after us and being served first, had to ask for menus twice and when told the waitress we knew what we were having, instead of taking order we were told she would be back. The wasps are quite unpleasant and customers were just expected to put up with it. We were quite disappointing. This is a returning restaurant for us but we certainly will lot be coming back. Instead we found a really nice local cafe with really fresh amazing John Dory fish, so worked out well for us in the end. I guess it wasn't meant to be, having...

Been there last night for a dinner. The place wasnt busy inside but we were told by a server that they have table for us but only until 7:30pm ( fair enough it was 6:10 - enough time to eat). Another server ( with two braids) came to our table and again repeated YOU KNOW YOU NEED TO LEAVE BEFORE 7:30..WE NEED THAT TABLE. We again politely agreed. We ordered two starters ( garlic bread and chicken liver pate). Garlic bread was a tiny French baguette with a bit of flavour. Chicken liver pate was very good and tasty. Mains were porkbelly and beef steak. Porkbelly was 5* cooked. Very well done. Steak suppost to be medium rare was more to well-done but that is ok. Bernaise sauce had texture of mayo but the result was good. We wanted to ask for dessert menu ( the time was 7:05). The same server came and said WELL YOU KNOW YOU NEED TO BE OUT AT 7:30. We started to be annoyed that we decided not to get any dessert. At 7:25 the server came AGAIN!! And said “you guuuys we really need the table”. I understand that people have reservations but being so annoying to a customer who has over 90mins to enjoy their meal. Feeling pressured and not welcomed isnt a nice thing. We spent around 120$ between 2 of us. So recommend the food but for sure not some...

We booked a table through the internet, easy to do. We sat in the window by the bar looking out to the outside tables when we arrived which was pleasant . The two young men behind the bar were friendly and helpful. We were able to sit at the table early, but I'm not sure it had been wiped down properly; the surface felt gritty. Our table was in a good place with a view out to the street. The melted wax from the candle on the sides of the candle holder was impressive. The menu had a good range of meals to choose from. The Rosè wine I chose was very nice. The schnapper fish meal of the day was delicious. Even though we were surrounded by other diners we heard little conversation. One thing that embarrassed us was the waiter removing the blackboard menu from our table and propping it up on the table opposite where diners were already seated. Felt rude.

They were expensive but I was ok with that as we were hungry and don’t mind paying for a good meal. What we got was not a good meal 3 measly bacon strips on our breakfast and an inch thick slice of bread. I spoke to the lady about it and she said that’s the std. Well you are not up to standard. When I spend $92 on a breakfast with my wife and boy we expect more than that, I explained to her that I wish I had read the reviews before coming here as they all say the same. She didn’t seem phased about that at all. I think if you are looking for a fair trade for your dollars you are best to avoid snapper rocks in tutakaka
