The Dunes Matarangi Golf Club — Restaurant in North Island

Went for dinner with the family. They have a kids menu and the servings are generous. I had the surf and turf. The steak was huge and cooked perfectly. It was very tasty as were the prawns. The chips were nice just a little over salted. It comes with a caesar salad which is a bit much and makes for a huge meal. The pork bao were nice but would have been nicer hot. The popcorn chicken was a little over cooked and lacking in flavour. The buttered chicken was average and very mild. There are little to no non alcoholic drinks available unless you like coke ect... Welcoming pro shop.. Bar/restaurant very good.. Finishes with a par 3, great to watch whilst enjoying a drink/food... Excellent piece of land...half of the course routing is away from houses... Could have been a top class course had they done fescue turf, had wider fairways to increase the strategy and not sold so much real estate..but I guess it's the compromise made to fund courses.. nevetheless an enjoyable course, pretty vistas & pines, not a whole lot of width, not too long and has some interesting holes/greens... a good package if you're in the area... Extremely disappointed. Waited over an hour for our meals. Total lack of management on the service floor. The poor staff are run off their feet, constantly saying “sorry for the wait”. The chicken schnitzel was an utter disgrace, with steamed vegetables, it was absolutely not a restaurant grade meal. The Mediterranean pizza was very sparse and unusual. They also ran out of pizza dough so we had to get gluten free pizza. We have eaten here previously, and the food has been awesome, so it is a shame to see the place turn into...
