The Tav — Restaurant in North Island

If you haven't been here yet, I highly recommend you do.

My partner and I hadn't been back there since the previous owner... but now... what a transformation.

Not only has the building itself been updated and freshened but the Bar & Menu have also. We were greeted warmly by bar staff, to a very clean smelling & Looking bar. Our drinks orders were taken and served immediately. We decided our meals, The Spicy Chicken for entrée... I had the Scallops, Prawn & Cherizo Salad while my partner had the Pulled Pork burger.

Our entrée arrived within 10mins, beautiful presented on a platter looking super fresh and tasting devine. Our main meals arrived in a timely fashion about 5 mins after our Chicken was finished, Both well presented & Colourful. The dressings on the Salads were not overdone, was not oily and were nice and crisp. My partners burger... was incredible... The pork was cooked to perfection and very flavorsome.

Priced to a tee. The meals were of an extremely high quality, and I would have absolutely no issues with paying for what we received again. 💯

Could not speak anymore highly of our experience. It's about time the Gisborne got a Pub/Bar/Restaurant of such...

Hhhhhhmmmm, well we celebrated my auntys 60th birthday here a few weeks ago now & my aunty was pretty much disgusted in how her platters she paid $1,600 were not everything she wanted. Right down to ordering 4 jugs of raspberry drinks for the kids, but given coke (our kids don't drink coke) inquired to have them swaped & got told NO. Bigg ups to the manager who took the order without giving my aunty a receipt & then asking for one when my aunty came to inquire about been given cheese platters instead of the $80 platters. Be honest how many Maori whanau do you know celebrate a birthday, let alone eat there ordering cheese platters? Catering for 40+ whanau members. Oh & we got a deal on kids platters cause they didn't want to cook the cheese burgers 😞 Yes we understand the pressure you & your staff were under that night but hey! Hold up you had like 4 or 6 months notice to organize extra staff 🤷‍♀️ Was sad for our Kaumatua who attended & our whanau who traveled from Australia. But...

Never will go back. Absolute RUDE little girl on staff. The one with the ugly mole serving. Three car loads of us turn up to order some easy barmeal lunch only for this little wench to rudely say "in future book because we are fully booked and need to let the kitchen know, but we can still serve you but just so you know for the future." Aw nah there is no future little girl. To chuck wedges in fat and pour us some beer was clearly to hard for a PUB! There was plenty of tables available in this trumped up PUB. We could have easily spent $200 thank God we didn't. *regarding TAV response. Grow up. Customers aren't always right but customers MADE you or have you forgotten?
