Umami Fusion Kitchen — Restaurant in North Island

Ok, I was expecting a cracking meal and good service, but crikey the team at Umami Fusion Kitchen blew me socks off!

Let's start with the service, our waitress was attentive, informative, her manner and poise put you straight at ease. Now add the menu. WOW... the descriptions don't do the dishes justice, the egg plant (Aubergine to us Poms) dish was stunning, honestly mind-blowingly balanced and cooked to perfection, don't pass this one by, it's that good! Not to say the other dishes I tried weren't amazing, the Tuna was cooked perfectly and the squid was to die for! I'm going to stop gushing about the food, you should go and make your own mind up!

What about the decor, tables, etc? Whatbi found really nice was that there was a decent amount of space between each table which enabled you to have an intimate meal... well done team! Decor and ambience are on-point and the lighting levels were perfect. Add into this background music that (personally) I loved, although I recognise that this might not be to everyone's taste, but it suits the restaurant perfectly.

I WILL be coming back, this time with a taxi booked so I can sample the wine list (which looked super) and spend another enjoyable evening.

As the recipient of a gift voucher because of an Award event earlier in the week, I and my wife booked a table at Umami on Saturday night. They were obviously training two new staff who were trying a little too hard, if that is possible. However this did not spoil the occasion at all and we tried the potato Blue cheese wontons, Thai Chicken Spring Rolls with a very spicy sauce, the Chilli Caramel Pork Belly dish. The cauliflower tempura was slightly undercooked but still delicious. The Japanese Manageress was so helpful at all times. The staff are all working hard to do a great job of presenting, ordering and serving the food. All the food was amazing - the pork Belly was my favourite and was substantial enough to truly satisfy. The longer we were there the busier it got until the restaurant was almost totally full with keen diners so it is obviously a favourite spot.

I also noticed an unusual mirror effect on the restaurant wall, whilst we were there, so enclose a shot of it for all to enjoy.

Definitely recommend you try Umami. Heard about this place through a friend so thought we would give it a try and were not disappointed. The food tastes fantastic - great portion sizes for sharing our just for yourself. The wait staff are polite and know what they are serving so able to answer questions and advise. The decor is awesome, and the chairs are super comfortable. We'll worth roast visits. Update 25/1/23: continues to maintain excellent food and service. Butter chicken dumplings delicious and the go to dessert is the chocolate wontons - definitly a recommendation. Update 25/523: no reason to change stars. Since our first meal here, the did has been consistently good. The menu has changed a bit, maintaining the regional inspiration. The deep cried eggplant, light and deficits with a bit of zing, yellow curry with enough to be shared between two.
