Salt Air Cafe — Restaurant in Northland

You'd think they'd be happy to see the tourists after the lockdown but apparently not. Poor service, and menu is not better than the takeaway close by, no wonder there are always queues at the takeaway, while this place is empty. Went to get a beer and cola with my wife with our dog in tow and the first thing I was told before I could even order is that I can't take the drinks off site. I am not sure why would they get that impression of us, as we only wanted to sit down and enjoy a drink, but talks volumes about lack of customer service. Next day they tell us we have to sit at different tables because of having a dog, and I said fine, but when I asked them to clear the table I was directed at, as it was full of plates and remains from who knows when, the owner walked in ignoring me, so after waiting for few minutes we went away and drove to...

Disappointed to find floaties in served bottle of water! Worse realizing after just taken a huge sip! Mentioned this and was gobsmacked by response, " sorry we have tank water here only" really? I mean it should be common sense, you dont serve customers grotty tank water. Its ok for cleaning etc but certainly not to be drunk!. Leave a note informing patrons of this, i would have happily paid for bottled water in this case. What if my baby drank this and fell ill? Act on this and don't take it lightly as people should be made aware.

Lamb pie was soggy and filled with potatoes mainly, carrot cake was nothing traditional, definitely didn't get the cream cheese icing we thought to get.

Bad decision by wife, fish and chips takeaways would have been far less of a hassle AND your prices are...

We received real attitude from the boss man after trying to sit in what we believed to be a covered outdoor area (seperated by a wall & door to the main part of the cafe, and plastic blinds over windows - very outdoor feeling) with our small dog. We received no "I'm sorry, but you can't sit in here with your dog because..." just "You can't sit in here!". After spending more than $50 on meals and coffee for two we left with a VERY poor opinion of the place. The food was ok, but the service wasn't great. Staff need more training on the till, and the boss needs to rethink his approach to customers. Tact...
