From the initial telephone call to reserve a table for two, to the greeting, the service, the food, wine selection, ambience, cleanliness the entire experience we found to be second to none, ever, and we have dined out around the World. As retired hoteliers with moderately high expectations, believing that the service industry has a responsibility to serve well, I/we my wife and I could not fault this establishment. The young lady who took our telephone reservation set the tone, efficient, friendly, welcoming and professional. The same young lady greeted our arrival just as warm and welcoming, effortlessly guiding us to our beautifully positioned window table. The menus and wine/drinks list presented timelessly, clean and easy to read. A moderate selection by no means over faced but covering land and sea. To start, we felt like seafood with accompanying delicious bread and dips, the waiter suggested reigning back the quantity when I suggested two of the lemon pepper squid and two bread and dips. Appreciating his wisdom, he knew the portions. We shared the squid, gently, tenderly cooked and the warmed bread selection with dips, superb. To follow we both decided, seaside, fresh Stewart Island Blue Cod. Amazingly fresh beautifully cooked, thin crisp batter, the freshest of Blue Cod fillet and crisp dry, pale golden chips obviously from the freshest of oil vats, could not have been bettered. Not forgetting the fresh battered Bluff Oysters I had added, after hearing other tables ordering them. Had been craving them for weeks and wham, here they were in Riverton on the very bottom sea swept face of the South Island. The accompanying fresh Iceburg and tomato salad, crisp, sharp complimented the fish superbly. Simple, fresh, honest food. The Afrigato with Kapiti Vanilla Icecream, espresso and Frangelico a great finisher for me, as was the Eton Mess Sheila had, all washed down with a bottle of beautiful Hawkes Bay Pinot Gris. I can honestly say, we love dining out, love our food and this was simply the Best, Food, Service and full package. To crown it off, the Chef/Owner personally appeared at our table to present us with a complimentary Food Voucher to use on our next visit. Reason being, our reservation, three course sit and enjoy food outing washed down with a bottle of Vino. Read moreTook over two hours to serve us. We had a large booking (14 people) at 1:30 for a 70th birthday but didn't eat until after 3:30. And that was after having to remind them that we were still waiting. In that time we saw smaller tables come in, eat, pay and leave without seeing any food ourselves. In that time they took only two drink orders - and left the empty glasses from our first order (let alone the second) sitting on our table right up until we left because nobody thought to clear them away - despite seeing staff clear other tables as they went. After our second order of drinks, we had to ask them to take a third order of drinks because they hadnt noticed us sitting with empty glasses for over half an hour. When the food finally did start arriving, they'd forgotten one of the burgers. (Only 2 were ordered). That person had to start her meal as others were finishing up. They are a restaurant with new owners and open less than a week - I expected service to be a little slow, I expected them to run out of food, but like I said, several tables came in after us and had a meal before we saw any food. Our table ordered 9 blue cod, two burgers and a couple of entrees. None of it was food that takes 2hours to cook. They either made a decision not to cook for our table until last (we were the last table there at that point) or forgot about us. Read moreAmazing food and service at the Beachhouse! The team let us know the food might be a bit of wait as the place was full and they were short staffed. We had time constraints as two in our party had a flight in a few hours and were advised that the food may take about half an hour or more to get out, which was all good with us. The waitress said she would see what she could do to make sure our orders were out as soon as they could, as quite a few tables had been seated just before us. The waitress came back a few times to keep us updated on the wait times which was very kind of her! The food ended up coming out much sooner than expected and while there was a small hiccup with one of the drinks being forgotten, the team dealt with it really well and were genuinely apologetic. The meals were stunning and they really did the blue cod justice! Probably the best blue cod I've ever had, and the best service I've ever experienced.
