Middle Pub, Winton — Restaurant in Oreti Community

We came all the way from Invercargill based on a friend’s recommendation. As a food-loving family of four, we enjoy discovering new places to eat, and this one did not disappoint!

The menu looked amazing, colourful, full of tempting options, and immediately gave me high expectations even before we tried anything.

We ordered the chicken karaage burger, and it was incredible! The chicken thigh was juicy and perfectly cooked, tucked inside a buttery brioche bun with delicious coleslaw, absolutely satisfying.

Next, we had two drunk ribeye steaks cooked medium, and they were just perfect. Juicy, flavorful, and served with a fresh salad that I really loved, plus a generous portion of crispy wedges.

We also tried the loaded beef cheek fries, topped with melted mozzarella, sour cream, and other tasty sauces, a big hit with my daughter, who clearly didn’t want to share! 😅

Lastly, we shared the Malaysian chicken. It came with four boneless pieces, coleslaw, and satay sauce. The chicken was amazing, but I found the sauce had a stronger curry flavour than I expected. As an Asian, I was hoping for a more traditional satay taste, but it was still very tasty in its own way.

Last but not least, The staff at the café were very friendly and helpful, which made us feel welcome and is one of the reasons we’d love to come back. The place is spacious, comfortable, and clean, with plenty of indoor and outdoor...

Decided to stop at Winton for the night. We came for afternoon drinks and to see what's on offer locally. Our fantastic hostess showed us dinner menu and we decided to come back for the steak night special.

Check your bill! We were buying drinks over the bar separately, then got got charged for the drinks again on the dinner bill. We got charged $7 per order for extra bacon when the menu stated it was $2 per order (that's why we opted for it). Also, the so-called "large" portion of Blue Cod was only one fillet.?
