Black Swan Cafe/Waihola Motel — Restaurant in Otago

My Mum ordered me a Tex Mex pizza to eat while driving home after a long hard day building a shed. She commented on the price being a bit high for a smallish pizza but oh my gosh my first bite was AMAZING!!! I demolished one slice before driving back to Dunedin and was so sad I had to wait as it was so loaded with toppings I couldn't eat while I drove. However, every set of red lights driving through town I smashed another slice so when I got home there was basically none left! Definitely value for money - one of the best pizza's I've had. Thin base and loaded with delicious toppings. We will be coming back to try the rest! Could be very dangerous living across the lake from the Black Swan! The day before we stopped on our way past for coffee and cake and I ordered a fluffy for my 1 yr old nephew - I was told $2.50 which I was a little surprised at but hey we were treating ourselves so ok. They brought out the fluffy and it was very clear why they charge $2.50! This fluffy was a masterpiece with chocolate syrup, sprinkles and marshmallows which my nephew took great delight in and the proof was literally all over his face along with a smile ear to ear :-) Thanks for making a cold rainy...

Had a long drive and i stopped by to have some coffee. My wife and i were so curious why it was called Black Swan and we asked the owner . The owner explained that it was because the very first person to own the land was a blacksmith and their last name was Swan - hence the name Black Swan . SO much history to this place.

My Wife ordered an afternoon Tea Set - it was amazing there were 3 tiers of cakes and all of them taste really good. My favorite was the jam cup , not sure if it is called that . Yummy. We realised that they owned the motel right at the side as well and the rates were really good. Unfortunately we had already booked elsewhere , otherwise we would stay here for a night before moving off.

I highly recommend anyone who is travelling to take a break here , their coffee is good and i enjoyed my time here - REFRESHED & READY for the next few...

We spent two weeks living at the Black Swan Motel whilst building on our nearby property. It was clean, warm & comfortable. Shirene & her staff were always very helpful and available. Nothing was a bother. They made us feel at home. The cafe was conveniently close, loved stopping in for my morning coffee and on occasion after a hard day at work we picked up pizza for dinner. They are absolute deliciousness. Just how we like them. This crust and loaded with toppings. Add the sweet potato fries and you have a perfect meal. Our wee grandson was with us for part of the time and we one morning we ordered him a fluffy. It was super special. He thought all his Christmas’s had come at once when he saw the sprinkles & marshmallows with the chocolate...
