Peake’s Kitchen & Ice Cream, Store — Restaurant in Otago

Long time reader first time reviewer. Let me start off.

The Peaks team are absolutely amazing.

My wife and I had the pork belly roll and the burger, We cut them in half and shared so we could both enjoy this amazing food.

Pork belly roll was fantastic, a really great play on a Bahn Mi. Fresh and delicious with tender pork. Certainly worth giving a try.

BURGER TIME! This burger is next level, I can not remember the last time I had a burger that stood out from the rest. This burger does! If you do not have the burger your are missing out, this will be that one day in your life you made a bad decision that you will live to regret.

One of the greatest joys in my life is travelling for food, it brings a connection to people, culture and opens doors that you would never typically experience.

It is so amazing to see great people creating great food with care and passion for their craft.

If I have one criticism is that I have to go home with the memory of this banging food and I can’t shoot down the road to get another bite.

The Catlins is one of my greatest experiences, but that burger will bring me back.

Thanks team keep doing what you’re doing.

Giddy up! What awesome food and fabulous travel conversation and suggestions we experienced in Papatowai at Peake’s Kitchen! My husband and I are Canadian foodies who love to travel and enjoy sensational food along the way. We had heard great things about Peake’s Kitchen so we planned to visit when we were in Papatowai. We both had the phenomenal burger on our first meal there. I’m usually a salad and protein lunch type of gal so when I choose to enjoy a burger for lunch, it had better be worth the calories! The burgers were high quality and flavourful on brioche buns that were divine! The next day, we couldn’t resist and went back to enjoy another lunch at Peake’s Kitchen. I had the Thai Salad with Prawns which was outstanding! We treated ourselves to freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and indulged in a sublime blueberry drizzled cheesecake decorated with edible flowers which we took home to enjoy later. I stopped here for a coffee and a break from driving in the morning. I walked in and the owner and husband staff were so polite. Then I heard another shopper talking about these burgers they make and how they are New Zealanders best burger. Being a burger snob from Canada I had to give it a try. Unfortunately I was early around 9:30am. But that didn't stop the owner when I asked about his famous beef burgers. He quickly fired up the grill and made me the greatest New Zealand burger I've had in my month long trip, if not one of the best burgers I've had in the world. The ingredients are fresh, patties are made in house by locally sourced NZ beef. The bun was the perfect soft crunch, and let me tell you the beets on a burger are a huge game changer.
