The Outpost — Restaurant in Otago

Great Cafe in Palmerston (South) very easy to stop in at - whether going north or south. Had the Morrocan chickpea soup (vegetarian) and the vegetarian pizza slice from under the cabinet for a late lunch. Both were nice and hot. The pizza slice wasn't soggy on the base as it is in a lot of places that just microwave everything. Both items were spicy too and great food - whether you're a vegetarian or not

The regular menu has some good options. Which I've not tried but it's a step up from the everything comes with bacon offerings around.

While I don't pass through Palmerston much these days. I will be stopping in next...

We thought it would be a good idea to stop here on the way home. Road trip breakfast - awesome!

Not so much.

The eggs and mushrooms with hollandaise, which we both got, sadly, was terrible. A minimal number of badly cooked mushies and a horrible hollandaise. If they make their own hollandaise, then making a decent reduction would be a good idea. If they buy it, while there are some ok brands out there, making your own is better (and really easy).

The service wasn't great and the coffee wasn't good either.

Really disappointed, but now we know where not to...

Stopped in here on a whim when travelling thru from Dunedin to Oamaru. We were starving and hanging out for a bakery. Came into this place and was not disappointed. Sooo many choices of good, homemade food, PLENTY of vegetarian options, and the best alternative milk varieties (Alternative Co, of course). Had the mushroom & vege pie as well as the grilled halloumi panini - amazing! So glad we stopped thru here and really bummed we didn’t pick up seconds haha. All the staff were super friendly too and the service was quick even tho they were busy. Good...
