As an Australian this place has simply taken my breath away. In my entire life I have never found an atmosphere as unique as this. A great mix of locals and tourists enjoying their meals and having a good time. The staff are very friendly and they go above and beyond, we were asked how everything is going twice when it was flat out, just awesome. The food was out of this world! That beef burger will go down in history as one of the greatest of all time. Facilities were clean, prices were very reasonable, service was fast even when it was busy. I can see why this place has such a good reputation. If you are a local or a tourist, put this place on your map, you won’t regret it.

When we arrived, they looked quite busy but did have a table available for two. We thought it may take a long time to get food since they looked so busy but someone came to take our order and we had our starter shrimp/prawn cocktail fairly quickly. I got the fish of the day which came with salad and fries, it tasted great. My husband got the burger which looked delicious. I got the berry meringue parfait dessert and it was excellent. We had a great dinner.

I love a good Thickshake. But if you only use one small scoop of ice cream 1 cup of milk then add this gross milkshake powder. You can’t expect a good milkshake. The result a cup of bubble with a glue like texture and a strong powder taste. It’s not even cold. I’d recommend working on making a proper Thickshake as for $6.50 it’s just not quite the kiwi shake I know and love.

Absolutely rude woman behind the counter, rode in from Christchurch with a mate of mine and decided to browse around for lunch. Regrettably stopped into this place to look at the menu and use the toilet facilities. As I came back out from the toilet my friend was sitting down looking at the menu as I joined him we both read the menu. The lady was eyeballing us the entire time and suddenly questioned us if we were going to "get anything". We eventually decided to find another place as the food wasn't appealing. As we stood up and thanked the lady she then derisively said "Oh! So you just came in here to use the toilet! There's a public toilet down the street!" I was quite shocked at her outburst, we didn't know what to say so we just apologised and left. There's absolutely no reason to be rude to people like that. Horrible...

Can not say enough great things about this place. We stayed down the street a few nights and got to experience this place a couple times. Their food is amazing, service is excellent and did I mention the pavlova!

Very small bar, so not a hang out unless you want to chill with the cool owner and/or locals. Dining area is ample along with very nice outdoor seating, where most the ambiance lies.

I had a fish and chips one night and the lamb roast over mashed potatoes the other. Top notch F & C. The lamb meat was so unusually soft and tendor with flavor that was off the charts. Potatoes were no joke either.

Their pavlova banana split was a unique delicious concoction that I may fly over the Pacific to try again. Owner was super nice and loved talking sports along with...

Sorry, this is rather late in coming, but at the end of last year we travelled up from Christchurch in what we thought would be a leisurely ride to Westport. On the way out of Reefton we were turned around in the pass as there had occurred a fatal motor accident. We had a 200km detour down to Greymouth to get to our B&B in Westport. Arriving at about 20:30. Our host phoned around and found Donaldo's still open. We were welcomed for a meal of their Pork Roast of the day, piled high with spuds 'n veg washed down with a local beer (name escapes me, but it was bliss). Thanx, mate, it was a welcome hearty meal after the snacks eaten thru' the day. Cheerful staff and host, good vibe. In my next life when I'm in your neck o' the woods I'll pop in again. Oh, we're from...
