Was on a holiday with missus and 2 buddies and missus took us to this very hidden tavern which we never regret to drive all the way inside the road to have our dinner. We were the only customers around on that time and it’s great for me can take as many pictures as we can. Their tap beer are marvellous too bad we can’t have too much due to driving. Their menu is simple but yet interesting and gosh we wish to try our everything. Had their Seafood Chowder and my God it was in fact the most delicious chowder missus and I ever had !!!! Love it so so much !!! Missus and I worked in a soup shop last time and we used to cook clam chowder and soups like that but this chowder is way beyond too good and they throw it generously of seafood which makes it taste superb. We also had the fisherman’s basket and the blue cod... both also beyond what we expect. Ambience and deco is cosy and comfortable down to earth and to be honest, if it’s not because we have to drive another 3 hours to check in, we don’t want to leave at all and will spend the night around the area if we know the tavern is so so so great with food and booze! Told missus we need to come back again and spend the night...

It's definitely the best dining experience so far in NZ. Came after lunch hours but they still still offer the lunch menu.

The place is cozy with nice music, free wifi, nice fireplace and wonderful view. The place is very neat and warm, the hospitality is great, the toilet is very clean.

They have like 10 different sauces that we can have for free, from 5 different hot sauces to aioli, tomato, mayo, etc, and the sauces are good quality sauces.

The food has good quality. The chips are cook perfectly in clean oil, the best cooked chips so far in NZ.

Ordered the fisherman's baskets and all comes with different kind of batter, and cooked perfectly. The seafood was fresh, not fishy. The highlight was the springroll/twister prawn, so unique. The salad has so many different vegies and has refreshing dressing. Kudos to the Cook!

The locals must be lucky to have a good...

10.01.24 - Very disappointing- extremely slow service. treat with my family as our last night on holiday. On a tight budget, I paid for our drinks and meals. Waited over an hour before complaining. When I complained one member of staff behind the bar said they were low on stock. I advised they should be warning people of the wait and I was told they were. I mentioned we hadnt been warned and got told, no but that was a long time ago. My food followed behind me, and I complained to the person serving our table who walked away from me while i was making my complaint, uninterested that we are disgruntled customers. I was told the kitchen aren't used to how busy it is. Yet the night before we didn't stop because there was no where to sit due to the of the volume of people. A couple next to us mentioned food took half the time on a busier night. No apology- won't be...

Summary: Brutal wait, minimal communication, average food. Called in here, with a booking, en route to Dunedin for the rugby. Clearly busy with plenty of other AB shirts around, but the restaurant was also really unprepared for a busy lunch service. Waited almost an hour and a half for lunch, including a pizza and a chowder. Very little communication upon ordering that the wait would be so long, and updates during the wait also well off. A free round of drinks from an apologetic floor manager, but only after asking and not during the wait. Food when it came was fine, and beyond the Chowder nothing special. If you've got a lazy afternoon to chill out here, perfect spot in a beautiful place. If a prebooked pitstop is your plan, grab a Z Pie in Omarau!
