Playhouse Cafe and Theatre Restaurant — Restaurant in South Island

The Playhouse Cafe is a hidden Nelson gem. The first time I saw the Playhouse Cafe was on my way back from running the Abel Tasman track (a fantastic run) from that day onwards I have been meaning to visit for a coffee.

So last week when the option arose for a coffee outing, I was ecstatic to have the opportunity to visit the Playhouse Cafe for a coffee.

The Playhouse Cafe is in a fantastic secluded oasis, the staff are lovely, on our visit they were talkative and very polite. Super friendly and enthusiastic.

The inside of the cafe is a delight, the amazing decor is an amazing sight. On this occasion we decided to sit outside. The outdoor seating gives the illusion of being in a tranquil forest environment.

I ordered a flat white, being a self proclaimed coffee conisiour, my only improvement would be not to have as much milk fluff on a flat white. My coffee was also a bit weak (maybe it was the second??)

Overall I would highly reccomend the Playhouse Cafe, it is a delightful place and is truly...

This is an excellent venue. Has real character. We went to have some dinner and then see a tribute band here. While the food was good it was a bit disappointing to only have a buffet option for dinner. Would have been better to offer that and maybe a few other bar food type options. The staff were very friendly. Drink options were pretty good with some awesome local beer options. The venue itself is awesome and it's in a brilliant setting. The sound system is very good. For our band, though, the mixing wasn't great with the lead guitarist overly load in the mix. But that's the band and not the system. We had quite a good night overall but probably won't come back given the limited food options...

Went to see Jon Toogood from Shihad play his acoustic night. We decided to book a table for a group for dinner also. There was no mobile coverage there on Spark or Skinny - unsure about others. Cool venue but had to drag a wifi password from the manager to redeem an entertainment voucher. Drinks a little on the high $$ side. Staff were too few for the number of people and the food was ok but not great. would go again for a show but would like to try dinner on a quieter...
