Midhirst Tavern — Restaurant in Taranaki

We are locals and often visit the tavern for family dinners. We absolutely love coming here and know that we are always welcomed with a warm and cosy atmosphere inside and have the option of sitting outside which is perfect on the hotter days. A great place to go when you want to kick your feet up and have a night off cooking! The service was excellent and our cups are always filled (from their attentiveness) when we go… Very kind and friendly people. The food is delicious and comes at a good price…you definitely get your moneys worth. The portions run large luckily they have take away containers on standby! Definitely worth trying the cheesy garlic bread as this is one of our favourite entrees. The environment was very clean and had good music playing in the background. They even have a claw machine game which my family and I love to have a crack at while we are waiting for meals. I would highly recommend coming here and we will personally be coming...

Very disappointed in the service of one staff member tonight (bar lady). Letting the team down. Had a table booked for 6pm ordered by 615pm no meal until 735pm. Final meal was meant to be GF but the lady didn't pass on the message to the kitchen so it had to be remade. Rude comments when we questioned where meals were and not a very convincing appoligy. Was put down to being a busy night but people had arrived at least 40min after us and received meals at the same time. Id assume our order was never given to kitchen. She even had the cheek to ask if we wanted a loyalty card when we paid for what should have been free. Waiting staff are fantastic and good food. Excellent value and service, with delicious pub-style food and a well-considered menu of both classics options and some with contemporary twists (think venison burger on brioche bun). We ordered the chicken schnitzel and the carbonara, impressive portion sizes, served very quickly; nice and hot. Obviously the go to for locals as we got the last table on a Sunday evening. Extra points for double-checking for allergies. Only being tough on the atmosphere because we are very into architecture, art and design, so get to nosy around some pretty flash spaces!
