Joe's Garage Cambridge — Restaurant in Waikato

Had dinner here tonight for my nieces birthday. We chose joes as some of our family had been here last weekend for lunch and really enjoyed it. All was going well until two of the three mains came out before any of the entrees. Nothing else came for 5 minutes or so. A staff member came over to check on things. Long story short these weren’t for us and the rest of our food wasn’t ready. A little while later our 2 entrees came and they were amazing. However we then waited over an hour for our mains including the 3 kids mains. When they finally arrived the side of chips for the kids was stone cold. The $42 steak was completely inedible. So tough you could hardly cut it. It was cold on the inside. It was a real shame as we don’t go out to eat much and really wanted the food to be good after waiting so long. I’m also not one to complain about steak but it honestly was inedible. We didn’t have to pay for the steak and they gave us the soft drinks for free. Not really sure if that...

Could have done better - We ordered 2 Eggs Bennies, a medium flat white and English Breakfast tea for one. Firstly, water wasn't automatically provided, had to ask. Table was very sticky and sugar hadn't been topped up and no serviettes on our table.. My husband's tea was too strong & additional hot water not offered. My flat white was apparently 'Medium' but was really a small cup which meant it was too strong. I asked for it to be re-made with a single shot. Hubby asked for hot water to dilute the strong tea but was given only a very small jug so has to ask for more water later on again. The meals were OK but the egg yolks were solid so not good as the yolks should be flowing out. Overall 3 out of 5 because attention to detail just wasn't there. Also no air con so too hot and unpleasant. We came over especially from Te Awamutu so I'm not sure we'll go back. LATER: I EMAILED OWNER AS SHE ASKED. SHE NEVER REPLIED! WHAT A JOKE! We had been looking forward to visiting Joes in Cambridge because we had been to Joes in Hamilton a few times and always enjoyed it. We had booked a table and it was ready for us 👍 We were offered drinks while we were waiting for our friend to arrive 👍 We had made our choices for dinner and had read the menu so can't be disappointed about what we didn't get. 2 of us had chosen the schnitzel and the other a Caesar salad. When our schnitzel arrived it was exactly as it was described on the menu except meat was so tough we were struggling to cut it, so vey disappointing. Our friends salad seemed fine and she said she enjoyed it, but there was hardly anything in her bowl. Overall we left feeling disappointed.
