The Backyard Gastropub — Restaurant in Waikato

Food was good but honesty not that good. Our bill was $136 for two people when it should have been $81 at most. This is a pity as the food was good and the venue very pleasant. Like Response from the owner6 hours ago Hi Marcus I’m not sure what you ordered as our most expensive main is $26 and most couples order a main each and a starter or dessert and a drink and the bill comes in at $70. We get loads of comment about the price of our food being reasonable. If you could let me know what you ordered - then we can check it out for you because maybe an error was made with your bill as you were with a large group last night (and as we know sometimes the last person to pay gets landed with all sorts of items lol). Hi there. Thank you for your reply. I have had a look at my bank acc this morning and the amount was $113.40 not the $136 I initially thought. We had the following 1 X Steak, chips, eggs and a handle of Speights Beer - $20 (Wed night special) 1 x Pasta (Can't remember the type) - $18 1 x Choc Brownie for desert - $12 2 x Medium Hazelnut latte's coffee - Not sure of cost approx. $12 1 x Speights (handle) approx. - $10

I have the amount at approx $72. I was the first to pay of our party. I only realised the difference in amounts on our way home. I would like to add that the food was great and the atmosphere very pleasant. The ladies waiting our table were excellent as well. All in all we had an enjoyable night just a pity...

Pub and food looked great, unfortunately we didn't get to try anything. Upon entering we were told in snappy tone booking is essential being Mothers Day so they probably won't have anything available. This made us feel very unwelcome. The staff member explained if we can find a table we can sit there.

Yes there were several tables with reserved signs up (no customers had arrived yet the pub was empty) but there were also loads of tables available without reserved signs so we found a nice table outside quite easily.

We waited 15 mins to be served (or at least welcomed with water / explain we need to order at the bar) Now we were the only customers outside with two other tables of customers inside.

We eventually left as we felt very uncomfortable and that we were an inconvenience to the staff member as she made no effort to...

I bought a takeaway burger for $10, it had a burnt pattie, some lettuce and 1 slice of tomato and dressing. I’ve given this rating an extra star because the burger bun was fresh. Very disappointing.

We would have appreciated if you had contacted us directly so we could have resolved the issue for you immediately. As for the price of the burger we have made no changes to the price in the four years we have been there.”
