Big thumbs up for delicious dinner menu and happy professional service

We were surprised and delighted by the stunning food and service presented by the chef and waiter team for dinner on Saturday at the The Jolly Pub & Kitchen Kapiti.

The drinks menu covered the bases, and the menu offered some very interesting innovation:

Some examples:

A starter: CHILLI AND GARLIC TIGER PRAWNS: Lychee, mint, spring onion, tandoori cauliflower, courgette. ($22.99)

A Burger: FRIED PORK SOUVLAKI: Yeast bread, lettuce, pickles, nduja labneh, garlic mayo, fries. ($25.99)

A Pizza: JOLLY LAMB PERI PIZZA: Lamb, tomato base, mozzarella, onion, garlic, coriander, black pepper, capsicum, mayo, peri-peri sauce. ($23.99)

A Main PAN FRIED MARKET FISH: Celeriac puree, wakame butter, curry leaves, shaved courgette ($36.99)

I had the market fish – a delicious pan-fried fillet of John Dory, accompanied by excellent bits and pieces.

And my wife had the Rack of Lamb – cooked to the perfect pink. We had a fries to share.

We had 2 wines, 1 beer and a rum. Total cost for the meal and drinksexcluding tip given was $131.

More expensive than we had expected before we arrived, but well worth the amazing tastes, and service delivered.

We...

Hey unfortunately this is our local and we took the kids for a school holiday sundae which was in a glass not a bowl and decided to buy an expresso Martini for the adults, last time I had one from the male server it was amazing a couple of weeks ago, I guess I should have known better when the woman serving said she Has never made one before sb a warning sign because it really was horrible she said she doesn’t drink Them either perhaps could learn from the male who makes the cocktails is recommended, I forced myself to drink mine but felt sick and We gave back the full glass to her and said It’s not good and far too Much cinnamon plus too bitter not creamy or Drinkable, she told us that’s just a matter of taste when she charged us 16 bucks for it And didn’t offer a refund or a diff Drink to have instead , worst experience And customer service, I won’t be coming back with my partner for dinner or rugby after that terrible service, I wouldn’t have written a bad review of the woman today had been nice And respectful to the customers wishes and seriously don't make them if you don’t know how is...

Very disappointed. The staff were very discriminatory towards my partner. We were there watching a rugby game and there were plenty of people make noise but apparently that wasn’t ok when my partner joined in.

This discrimination on their part has happened more than once. Another time we were having a dinner in the restaurant and one of the staff approached me and told me that my partner was being too loud. We weren’t doing anything different from others in the restaurant.

I feel the staff there were singling her out. I have video of how others were behaving in the restaurant and bar. These people were much louder and yet these people were not spoken to or treated unfairly. It was nothing more than discrimination.

We will never go back to this establishment. I do not recommend this place at all. We will be taking our business elsewhere in future!

For a bit more context my partner is American. After reading more reviews there appears to be a common thread when it comes to international visitors, and in particular American people being treated in a...

I had a beautiful dinner with my partner and baby. Ideally, I love anything with mushrooms, but this turned out to be one of the best restaurants I had ever been to. I live in Auckland, and I can't help but go back again for a second night in a row before I head back home. The dishes were all rated at 5 stars, and from the moment we got in, we were welcomed. The presentation of the food blew me away, and the $$ was worth every dollar. The staff, including the chefs, were amazing. I highly recommend it, and I'll definitely be stopping back again. This deserves more than 5 stars 🌟 . There were more photos taken but it is on another device.

What a Gem! Seen reviews so had to try it. I had Beef Short Ribs & our friend had Pork Belly the wife had Calamari Salad. I look for quality produce - value for money - cleanliness and great service. The food came very quickly and we were not disapointed it was really nice. My beef fell off the bone and the flavours were so good. The pork belly looked great and got thumbs up from our friend. I will be back to give the pork belly a try. This place is worth the drive from Wellington. Give it a go. They cater for large groups and have a great outdoor area. 5 stars guys. Well done
