Best budget-friendly food for miles. Service: Excellent, friendly, and fast. Food: All was good. All the typical foods you’d expect of a place like this (fried chicken, burgers, fish & chips, cakes, hot drinks, sandwiches, breakfast, pies, ice cream, etc.) plus some unexpected options (like chicken burgers that come with hash browns, apricot sauce, and aioli). If you have some time to spare, order off the made-to-order menu for fresh hot meals. Otherwise, you can grab pre-made sandwiches, hot pies, ice cream, etc. and get quickly back to driving. We loved our hot meals and the hot lemon, ginger and honey drink that was fresh made, delicious and perfect for cold weather. Price: Some reviews said it was overpriced, but after living in NZ for over 3 years, I find the prices as expected. In general food prices here are more than in the U.S., Canada or most of Europe. Just a stop on our journey to Nelson. We wanted food and a comfort stop. The facilities were clean and tidy and washing hands was set up well for hygiene. Tha staff were welcoming and friendly and service was quick and cheerful even thought they were busy. My wife ordered a pie and asked for it to be heated and she also ordered a milkshake with half n half chocolate and raspberry... no problem. I just ordered chocolate with a date scone warmed with butter, and a seafood basket. My food was delivered almost as quickly kly as hers and was delicious, with a very tasty tartare sauce . The chips were beautifully cooked while the mussels were a bit over done. The milkshakes were lovely and my date scone was excellent! I have been frequenting this place over the last 20years and seen it go through many changes keeping pace with the times and the ever changing preferences of its customers.

Being an isolated service provider in the country, It can be very busy in the summer as people stop on route between christchurch and Nelson. Nice cozy place for a pit stop on cold winter days. It is a common pit stop for tour busses, truckers, and shuttle service providers as it provides a great place to have a stretch, take in the clean alpine air, and admire the picturesque views of the region.
