MaiShayi Coffee Roasters are an indigenous business that grows and trade in locally grown coffee beans. This business has been around since 1981 and are located in Asokoro, Abuja. We had plans to actually visit the cafe for breakfast someday, only for us to stumble on it while we were in the compound for something different. The cafe is elegant but simple which I like. Large artworks hung on the walls and the aesthetic of the place was quite cozy. We were treated to the history and taste of the business and the different coffee options they had from the Kenyan coffee to those of Colombia, etc.
Yes, the service was good. And I liked how simple the outfit of the attendants were but with a little scarf twist.
Do you know that Europe though the highest consumer of coffee, do not have any indigenous grower of the beans.
Anyway, we didn't have coffee, we had sandwiches and crepes with a banana smoothie and strawberry milkshake, and the milkshake was really good. The food overall was very good and not expensive as you would expect from a cafe in Asokoro. It also was prompt.
The music was prefect for the mood and theme of the place. I actually think the music came from the advertisement screen by the bar.
I enjoyed the ambience, the experience, the food and drinks. I think the only thing, I would change is the location. There have been some changes to the area that weren't readily on Google map.

Read moreI recently moved to Abuja from California, and was a bit challenged to find that good coffee is not really a thing here. I had been warned about that actually , and brought enough coffee for the first couple weeks - but assumed that at least some of the shops would sell a variety of good coffee, and while there is a bit of real coffee for sale on the market, the variety is limited, it is all medium roast, and I have not seen a good quality dark roast in the shops. At home I survive on super dark Cuban and Mexican coffee 2-3 times a day, so in my search here I came to Mai Shayi. The shop and staff itself are a bit hard to find, but once located they provide an amazing experience. The dark roast Balewa is delicious, exactly what I was looking for. I'm glad to know where to find local dark roast! The only improvements I can think of would be for the shop to easily accept international credit cards in-store and online for delivery, as I expect to buy a lot more of these beans in the coming couple of years. They are moving to a more accessible location in the future and I'm sure they will have much success, I highly recommend...
Read moreAll I can say is wow wow wow! This place was absolutely phenomenal. I experienced coffee in a completely different way. This coffee was top notch! I love the atmosphere here. The staff is so incredible, so knowledgeable, and this environment feels like luxury. Literally, it feels like you’re on a vacation. As an American, I’m used to quick coffee and limited interaction. That will not fly at this place! They do not even allow usage of laptops because they want you to experience what it means to really relax and enjoy a really good cup of coffee. That is one policy you’ll be grateful for! I found myself just staring into my latte in sheer amazement! To say the food is great is an understatement! You just have to experience this place for yourself. Please do not leave Abuja without going to this place. I enjoyed it so much that I’ve been telling all my friends and family about it. Special thank you to the wonderful staff member who introduced me to masa. If you are a coffee lover, I would recommend you experience in this place for yourself. As in I would book a flight just for...
